When the PlayStation 5 was announced fans were begging, pleading even, for native PS3 games that could be played on this console. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and players were forced to use cloud gaming to play these older titles. Now that Sony is teasing the PlayStation 6, could we finally get native PS3 games on the console?

Do fans really want to play PS3 games on the PS4, PS5, and PS6?

Yes. While those consoles have their own great games, certain titles are stuck on PS3 and haven’t been properly ported or remastered since.

Exclusives from the console, like the Uncharted series, did get a fancy remastered collection that looked and played really well. Fans are also too aware of The Last of Us getting a remaster and remake in the next two generations. However, games like Infamous and the “Future” Ratchet and Clank games weren’t shown the same love.

There are also some standalone games that didn’t get remasters like Puppeteer, God of War: Ascension, and Heavenly Sword. Add some indies and PSN exclusives that haven’t been re-released, and it becomes really clear why fans want these games available on current-gen PlayStation consoles. They’ll even wait for a PS6.

Why hasn’t Sony properly ported these PS3 games?

The PS3’s infamous cel processor was infamous for being hard to use, leading to a ton of development time for certain games. Sony would make simpler and more powerful processors for their future consoles, hence, them being easier to port.

Because this processor was hard to use, Sony’s system often ended up getting lesser ports at the time. Games like Batman: Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty, and Bayonetta, amongst others, were better on Xbox 360, as devs understood its processor more. Developers did eventually get better with the PS3, even making gorgeous games like Ni No Kuni, but we partially understand why Sony doesn’t make native games.

Yet we can’t help but ask for more. Sony did make these games after all, and it would be great if the company made an emulator that worked on PS5 and their upcoming PS6.

Will the PlayStation 6 have native PS3 games?

All we can do is hope that the next-gen PlayStation finally gives fans native PS3 games. Just being able to buy older titles from the PSN store would make a ton of gamers happy.

It would also let fans experience these games in their original form, untouched and raw. The original Demon’s Souls, Infamous, Sly Cooper 4, and more would be a blast to play right now. Hopefully, Sony considers this move when they eventually reveal the PS6, but that’s a while away.
