When Nintendo announced that the $100 Switch Game Vouchers weren’t compatible with Switch 2 games, fans knew something was off. At first, fans gave Nintendo the benefit of the doubt, since it would be neat to have this as an exclusive last-gen feature. Now we know the company’s true motives, as they’re completely abandoning these vouchers next year.
But they’re also going to add more games eligible for these vouchers despite their deactivation, which is an interesting move, to say the least.
Nintendo confirmed that the Switch Game Vouchers are going to be discontinued after January 30, 2026. Users who purchase any vouchers before the discontinuation will have one year to use them after. This means if you buy them in, say, January 2026, you will have until January 2027 to redeem these games.
Although the company is removing this feature, they are also going to add more games to the service before it's discontinued. The company didn’t name any games that will be a part of it, but we assume exclusives like the new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life are contenders. Expect gamers to be annoyed whenever Nintendo announces new games eligible for these vouchers, since players won’t be able to get them after a while.
For those unaware, Switch Game Vouchers were a good deal for NSO users. Gamers who purchased these $100 vouchers will be able to get two Switch exclusives at that price. It was a good way to save money and buy some of Nintendo’s best games. Even the $70 Tears of the Kingdom was part of this package, making that an amazing bargain for gamers everywhere.
We assume that Nintendo is planning to do some sort of Switch Game Voucher replacement program for Switch 2 owners, though that’s going to take a while. Most fans are still waiting for the new system’s library to fill up, as it's mostly Switch 1 games and a couple of Switch 2 titles carrying this new console. Hopefully, Nintendo is able to announce this feature soon, when they have a bunch of games to brag about.
