Since its launch in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has had a spectacular run and remains one of the best-selling consoles ever.

Now, Nintendo is ready to release its predecessor, the Switch 2. While fans wait for the official Nintendo Direct to reveal more details about the console, analysts estimate how much this next-level Switch could cost.

How Much Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Cost?

Bloomberg reports that multiple industry analysts think the Nintendo Switch 2 could be going for a price tag of more than $400—specifically between the $399 and $449 range. Analyst Hideki Yasuda said, “The original Switch’s Nvidia chip is estimated to cost $80 per unit, while the Switch 2’s chip is likely to be in the $130-$150 range… I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo goes ahead with $499.”

Concerns have also been raised that the US tariffs could affect the prices of the Switch 2, but this could be remedied because the Switch 2 is assembled in Vietnam. Thus, the tariffs might have a different effect depending on where the product is coming from.

For context, the original Nintendo Switch launched at $299. Admittedly, it didn’t have the same computing power as its fellow consoles, such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but the Nintendo Switch 2 is suspected of rivaling new-gen handhelds like the Steam Deck.

There’s even speculation that the new-gen joy-cons will be able to mimic an actual mouse, offering a keyboard-and-mouse set-up for the Switch 2.

What’s Been Revealed about the Switch 2 So Far?

So far, most of what fans know about the Nintendo Switch 2 is purely aesthetic. They see the console is much bigger than the original Switch and will not be as colorful.

The device also has a feature that allows the tablet to lie almost flat on its back. Fans have speculated that this feature is due to its keyboard-and-mouse setup.

What’s more, it’s been revealed that the joy-cons connect to the device differently via magnets, which relieves some Switch fans, seeing that the original’s slide-in mechanic was said to have worn down the hardware over time. Some even speculate that the controllers are reversible on the device, so players can adjust which ports would be at the top and bottom of the Switch 2.

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, some also speculate that this device will be more powerful than the Switch, and this is based on a number of characters in a Mario Kart lineup that would not have run smoothly on the original. Maybe it may even be able to play AAA titles—but that could be too good to be true.

Fans can only speculate until the official reveal at Nintendo Direct later this year. In the meantime, Nintendo is under enormous pressure to produce a great sequel to the success of the Nintendo Switch.

Fans are expected to get a full showcase for the Nintendo Switch 2 on Nintendo Direct, which takes place on April 2, 2025. No official release date has been set for the Switch 2, but some speculate it could come out around September.
