- Quick Answer: Project OVR has failed to meet internal objectives, and developers at Ubisoft fear that the game's development might get rebooted or cancelled.
Just two days after Ubisoft announced the closure of another studio, a new report came out indicating that things might not be going as great with the development of the next Ghost Recon game.
The report comes from Insider Gaming and states that Project OVR, the codename for the next Ghost Recon, failed to meet internal alpha objectives. This information was revealed through an internal memo that the site got hold of.

This memo also announces that Ubisoft has brought Bruno Galet as senior producer to lead the team, while VP of Production Jean-Baptiste Duval and VP of the Global Creative Office Julien Sansalone will be more present on the work floor to keep a closer eye on the development.
Developers who spoke to the site say that the game has been plagued by "unrealistic deadlines and poor planning and management." Some even believe that the game directors are doing what they want and not listening to feedback from the Ubisoft HQ team.
The report also mentions that employees believe the game could be cancelled or completely rebooted if things don't improve.
Moments after this report was published, Tom Henderson, Insider Gaming's Editor-in-Chief, revealed on his X account that the development for the next Far Cry, another of Ubisoft's projects in the pipeline, has been "abysmal." He didn't go into detail, but he already mentioned it earlier this year on his podcast.
Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, officially acknowledged Project OVR in July of 2025 during a meeting with investors, but the game has been in development since before that.
The last game in the franchise was Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, which was released in October 2019 for the previous-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) and PC.
