The April 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has just come and gone. With plenty of reveals, including a look at Mario Kart World, Street Fighter 6 fans will be pleased to hear the fighting game is coming to Switch with two unique modes.
The Capcom title has been a massive success, both critically and commercially. It only made sense for the company to create a unique port for the Switch 2 with some enhanced capabilities.
SF6 Reveals Exclusive Game Modes for Switch 2
In the official announcement, it wasrevealed that the Switch 2 port for Street Fighter 6 features game modes called Gyro Battle and Calorie Contest.
For Calorie Contest, players will have to use the motion controls on their Joy-Cons to perform attacks that will build up a Calorie Gauge; it’s describe as a mode that “challenges both your strength and endurance.’
As for Gyro Battle, players will be able to perform moves based on the motion control on the Switch 2 controllers. You'll be able to move and perform special inputs with a mix of motion controls and buttons.
Other Available Modes
The Switch 2 version of the game also comes with a Tabletop Mode which presents the three classic control types available in Street Fighter 6: Classic, Modern, and Dynamic control.
These modes are available depending on the set-up, as there will be a limitation of buttons should the game be played with just one Joy-Con. These different modes allow for players to perform more actions with less buttons—making for a more exciting game; but if that isn’t the player’s jam, they can still just opt to use regular controls and perform attacks like usual.
And though it’s not a mode, the announcement has also revealed that SF6 is going to be delivering new amiibos based on new characters Luke, Kimberly, and Jamie. They’ll also come with 22 character cards which feature other playable heroes in the roster.
The Next Generation of Switch
With the titles announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, it does seem like the console has enough computing power to handle AAA games from the previous gen. Besides Street Fighter 6, a lot of fans were surprised that the Switch 2 could also handle titles like Cyberpunk 2077 as well as Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Then again, it’s possible that these titles have been heavily modded to be able to play on the Switch 2, but based on the other games that have been announced, it does look like the console is ready to bring the handheld consoles into the next generation of gaming.
With the Switch 2 being as powerful as it is and being as thin as the first Switch, some players have to wonder what the release of the Switch 2 would mean for the Steam Deck. Will it be able to keep its viability or will the Switch 2 blow it completely out of the water?
As for Street Fighter 6, the game still manages to sit as one of the tenets of the fighting game genre. With Mortal Kombat 1 fumbling their release for the Nintendo Switch, Capcom is expected to have checked all the bugs with this port over to the Switch 2.
Street Fighter 6 is expected to be an available title for the Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches on June 5.
