Warner Bros. and Rocksteady have just dropped a mysterious job listing for a Game Director well-versed in open-world exploration and third-person brawler combat.
The posting seeks a Game Director to oversee melee-based gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design. Fans are already speculating what this means for Rocksteady’s future, with some believing this could be the next installment in the beloved Arkham series.
Rocksteady has been at rock bottom since the disastrous launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. After ending support for the game and making Deathstroke its final playable character, many believe it’s time for the studio to refocus on what players actually want — another Arkham game.

Reports and leaks have suggested that Rocksteady is already working on a new Arkham title, though the company has yet to confirm it. Other job postings have also hinted at a project centered around third-person combat, with speculation that it could be a PlayStation 5 or even a PlayStation 6 exclusive.
This latest job listing is for a Game Director, something Rocksteady sorely lacked during Suicide Squad’s development. After Sefton Hill and other senior developers left before the game’s release, Rocksteady was left without a game director.
The last Batman: Arkham game to hit the market was Batman: Arkham Shadow, a VR title created by American studio Camouflaj for Meta Quest systems. While praised for its story and immersive mechanics, it wasn’t developed by Rocksteady.

With a new Arkham game seemingly on the horizon, Rocksteady has a chance to reclaim the trust of fans disappointed by Suicide Squad’s shortcomings. Who knows? We might be seeing a completely new person donning the caped-crusader mantle. Gotham Knights didn’t quite hit that sweet spot that the Arkham games delivered, but they tried their best to make a Batman game without Batman.
If the new Arkham game features a completely new character, we can hope that the writing is on par with the acclaimed Arkham trilogy and has a rogue’s gallery of impressive villains. We'd love to see Batman: Arkham be successful, so we we made a separate post talking about the things we want for the series' future here.
