Monster Hunter Wilds fans have discovered a unique mode available to PC players: it can be played in a "demastered" PS1-looking game! All jokes aside, Capcom's latest RPG has shipped with terrible optimization, according to users and reviewers.

Despite already becoming a record-breaking game, with the Steam concurrent users peak at over 1 million players, Wilds has plenty of technical issues on PC, with many users complaining on social media.

Some of the most common complaints are comparing how the beta ran compared to the final game. Ironically, the test demo ran better in many cases, with the full game launching with plenty of technical compromises. Some rather hilarious, Assassin's Creed Unity levels of horror.

The tech reviewers over at Digital Foundry posted a video a few hours after releasing, warning people that double-check if they're able to properly run Monster Hunter Wilds. If you're a PC user with a lower-end GPU, or even one with 8GB of V-Ram, you should stay away from the game's PC version.

Testing the game on both the RTX 4060 and 4070 with high-quality textures, DF found that not only the textures were shockingly low-quality, but the game suffered from stutters and constant pop-ins. DF clarified that they weren't trying to push the GPU, using the recommended default settings detected by the game.

All the testing was using a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which makes these issues more egregious. The DF reviewer even downgraded the textures all the way to low, showcasing that the framerate was still wildly fluctuating (see what I did there), even in emptier zones with no NPC density.

All these issues have made fans retaliate by bombing the Monster Hunter Wilds Steam user score. The game currently holds a Mixed rating, with only 47% of reviews being positive.
