Monster Hunter Wilds is already breaking records. Despite being out just mere hours at the time of writing, Capcom's latest RPG has already cracked the Top 10 list of games with the highest concurrent peak users on Steam, surpassing gaming behemoths like Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, or recent multiplayer titles such as Marvel Rivals and Helldivers 2.
Wilds peaked at 987,482 concurrent users according to SteamDB, putting the game at number 8, surpassing Elden Ring which now sits at number 9 with 953,426 peak users. If more users jump into the game during the next few hours, Monster Hunter Wilds could even surpass Cyberpunk 2077, which broke over 1 million concurrent players over four years ago.
For comparison, Monster Hunter: World peaked at 334,684 users when it launched in August 2018, almost seven months after its initial console release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Rise peaked at 231,360 users. Similarly to World, Rise didn't have a simultaneous launch on all platforms, being developed as a Nintendo Switch timed exclusive that was released in 2021, which was later ported to PC and other consoles in early 2022.
According to our review, Wilds earned this massive early success. It's a clear evolution of the Monster Hunter formula, refining it for both newcomers and veterans alike to enjoy.
For Capcom, it's a perfect start to 2025 following years of newfound success in this second Golden Age the Japanese developer is going through. In recent times, the company has shipped titles such as Dragon's Dogma 2, Street Fighter 6, and Resident Evil 4 Remake as well as positively received compilations like the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection and the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, just to name a few.
