In the vast and unforgiving world of Monster Hunter Wilds, every advantage counts in the battle against formidable foes. That's where Mantles come in – potent cloaks that grant hunters extraordinary abilities to turn the tide of combat in their favor.
Among these powerful tools is the Mending Mantle, a defensive game-changer that will become your best friend in the heat of battle. It’s a lifesaver when you run out of potions!
This guide covers what you must do to obtain such a unique item, how it works, and what its downsides are, if any.
Defeat Xu Wu
To obtain the Mending Mantle, you must complete a task that involves slaying a formidable monster named Xu Wu, a Cephalopod residing in the Ruins of Wyveria.
You will first encounter this challenging beast during the Full Circle quest in Chapter Three of the main storyline. It is crucial to be well-prepared before facing the Cephalopod, as it possesses the ability to instantly kill its opponents.
This monster is capable of repositioning quickly, using its tentacles to inflict damage, and hurling blades at you. Although it lacks special attacks, be wary of its mid-air jump, during which it will unleash projectiles at you before slamming down onto your location.
Watch out when Xu Wu digs because it’s a deceptive tactic to let your guard down. It will appear from above and charge toward you with its maw.
If you get caught by its front tentacles, it will try to devour you. But with correct timing, deal a powerful blow to its maw to knock the beast down for a short time.
It’s recommended to bring lots of health potions and ice-based items to survive the fight, including a weapon with ice damage, to truly hurt Xu Wu. Poison is an excellent status ailment to inflict as well. Curious about Shock Trap? Use them to slow the beast down.
Speak to Gemma
Upon successfully defeating the formidable beast, go back to the Base Camp. There, seek out Gemma. Engaging in a conversation with her will allow you to obtain the Mending Mantle, a unique cloak that restores health when equipped.
About the Mending Mantle
The unique cloak restores health for 60 seconds. But like other Mantles, its ability has a recharge time of 600 seconds.
The Mending Mantle can be equipped and removed at will. To quickly do this, display the Mantle in the Item Bar and press the right trigger.
Is the Mending Mantle usable when the weapon is drawn? Yes. Plus, there’s no limit to the number of times you can use this Mantle. The only downside is the recharge time, which you need to wait for between uses. So, you should equip the Mending Mantle at the right time, probably when things are really getting ugly.
