Monster Hunter Wilds hasn’t even been out for a month yet, but players are already discovering new techniques that are changing the game’s hunting experience. From the most broken builds to hidden mechanics and even deep lore, there’s plenty to uncover in Monster Hunter Wilds’ ridiculously satisfying endgame.
I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of tips from your favorite Monster Hunter content creators and YouTube videos, but for those who aren’t the “watching a YouTube video” kind of person, here are 5 advanced tips that new Hunters should know about:
1. Always Bomb Monsters When They’re Asleep
Monster Hunter veterans always find the craziest ways to beat a monster up, and one of the most effective is a method called “Sleep Bombing.” Whenever a monster is limping and on the verge of death, it will retreat to a new area and sleep, recovering a sliver of health.
Hunters, however, aren’t known for their mercy. Attacking a sleeping monster guarantees double damage, so what better way to wake them up than by planting multiple Mega Barrel Bombs right next to their face? Make sure to coordinate with your Greatsword user for a devastating True Charge Slash or with your Bow mains for an insanely satisfying Dragon Piercer.
So, whenever a monster is asleep, wait for your team to plant their bombs before attacking. If you don’t have any, stock up! You can always buy more from the Guild Provisions.
2. Don’t Worry About Money
Money isn’t an issue in Wilds. Even veteran hunters have no trouble accumulating billions of Zenny over the years. So if you ever find yourself short on funds for crafting and upgrades, don’t worry—there are plenty of ways to earn more, especially if you keep hunting over and over for those juicy Zenny rewards.
If you’re really broke, consider using a Voucher to multiply the rewards you get per hunt. The game rewards you with a single voucher per day, and that’s a great help. Just make sure to use it on the highest-paying quests; otherwise, it won’t be worth it.
In short, hunting repeatedly is the best way to earn money—and since that’s basically what Monster Hunter is all about, you won’t even notice when you’ve already racked up a million Zenny.
3. HR 40+ is the Real Grind
Everyone knows Monster Hunter doesn’t end when you defeat the final boss—no matter how monstrous and horrifying it is. The real game starts after the credits roll, and that’s where the ultimate challenge begins.
Once you’ve beaten the Flying Wyvern Arkveld—the actual REAL Arkveld, not the Construct version—you’re ready to take on the world at HR 40 and beyond. This is when you’ll start earning the best Decorations for armor and weapon slots, as well as Ancient Relics for your Artian Weapons. It’s also time to gather a squad of like-minded hunters to take on the strongest monsters, especially the Tempered versions of the Inclement Four (Nu Udra, Uth Duna, Jin Dahaad, Rey Dau).
And if high-level hunts aren’t your thing, why not go for Fashion Hunting? Find a monster with armor you love and farm for Layered Armor to flex in style.
4. Save Monsters as Investigations
One of the best things about Wilds’ endgame is that it puts everything in your hands. Once you’ve reached HR 40, you can do whatever you want.
Checking the map from time to time will reveal a selection of monsters with unique rewards. Some hunts might offer multiple Decorations at the cost of higher difficulty, while others—like Tempered Arkveld—will push your patience to the limit but grant better Ancient Relics as rewards.
Whenever you see a promising hunt, simply “Create a Quest” and “Save it as an Investigation.” It costs a few Guild Points to bookmark, but don’t worry about it. This ensures you won’t miss out on that monster’s rewards. Plus, once it’s saved, you can invite your friends for some monster ass-kicking. Just remember that each Investigation has a limit of three hunts—win or lose, they still count. So make the most of them!
5. Do Side-Quests
Side-quests might seem secondary, but they’re some of the most important quests in the game. They reward you with essential items and upgrades that can significantly improve your hunting experience.
If you see a Yellow Hunter Symbol with an Exclamation Mark on your map, that means someone has a side-quest for you. It could be your Palico, looking to upgrade its support abilities like Vigorwasp Healing, or it could be Gemma, who rewards you with Mantles like Evasion and Mending.
Some side-quests involve rare Endemic Life, like capturing the elusive Sandstar or fishing for a Whopper. They can be frustrating, but they add to the sense of exploration and adventure that makes Monster Hunter so special.
And for the Monster Hunter veterans out there—if you’re looking for the Powercharm and Armorcharm, they’re part of a side-quest in Suja once you hit High Rank. Make sure to grab them!
I’ve clocked nearly 100 hours in Monster Hunter Wilds, including time spent with the review copy provided by Capcom. My verdict remains unchanged—a perfect 10 out of 10. Wilds is the best Monster Hunter game I’ve ever played, thanks to its streamlined hunting experience, stunning visuals, and an endgame that never feels tedious.
