Modern Warfare 4 is the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise, and the fourth one in the rebooted subfranchise that started with 2019's Modern Warfare reboot.
Infinity Ward is back at the helm four years after the release of Modern Warfare 2 (2022), this time with two new studio co-heads. Now that we are getting close to its release, we have gathered all the important details about the game to get you up to speed.
When Does Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Come Out?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to release on Friday, October 23, 2026. The game is releasing exclusively for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
On top of releasing exclusively for the current-gen consoles, leaving behind the PS4 and Xbox One, this will be the first title in the franchise since Call of Duty: Ghosts to release on a Nintendo console.
Anyone who pre-orders any editions of the game will receive early access to the campaign starting on October 16. The early access period is expected to feature a limited number of campaign missions available.
Will Modern Warfare 4 Come Out on Xbox Game Pass?
Unlike previous years, Modern Warfare 4 won't be a Day One launch on the Xbox Game Pass. Xbox's CEO, Asha Sharma, announced earlier in the year that the Call of Duty franchise will stop having day-one releases on the subscription to ease the prices.
Instead, every new Call of Duty title will be added to Game Pass a year after its release, during the following year's holiday season. This means that Modern Warfare 4 will be available in the subscription until Holiday 2027.
What Is the Modern Warfare 4 Campaign About?
As revealed in the trailers and teasers, the Modern Warfare 4 campaign will have two sides to follow. On one hand, we have the North Korean government starting a conflict with South Korea, striking the capital of Seoul in one of the earlier missions.
On the other side, we will follow Captain Price in the aftermath of the events from the Modern Warfare 3 campaign. He will be playing by different rules and finding unexpected allies, with Valeria (El Sin Nombre) being one of them.
DMZ Mode
DMZ will be the third major mode available in Modern Warfare 4, giving the Zombies a break for the first time since the release of MW3 (2023).
This is an evolution of the beta DMZ mode we saw in Modern Warfare 2 (2022). Players will drop into Hajin, a large map that includes portions of South Korea, North Korea, and Russia. The map will feature dynamic weather, meaning there could be rain in one section and be completely dry in another.

Warzone
On the Warzone side, the game will receive a brand-new Resurgence map once the integration takes place. The map is titled Zodiac, and Infinity Ward shared a first-look image that you can see in the post below:
On top of that, the Call of Duty and Infinity Ward accounts on X confirmed that a big map is also in development for Warzone. When asked about a new big map, the Infinity Ward account simply replied with a "Yes," followed by a pair of eyes emoji reply from the Call of Duty account.
It's still unclear whether the new map will be available when the Modern Warfare 4 integration with Warzone goes live this year, or if this is an addition that will come out later in the post-launch schedule.
