Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 has been out for a while, with most fans enjoying the compilation after some necessary updates. The collection was really bad at launch for PC players, with MGS2 and MGS3 being unplayable, but some needed updates have smoothed things out. Now we’re all waiting for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 and that modern MGS4 port.
But where is Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2? While we don’t want to rush game development, especially after that last update, Konami’s lack of news is a bit concerning. It will be interesting to see if news on this collection comes out sometime after Metal Gear Delta comes out.
While fans enjoyed Master Collection Vol. 1 and the games in it, many of them view Master Collection Vol. 2 as the main event. This is because Metal Gear Solid 4 has been stuck on the PS3 for more than a decade now. Even the excellent port of the PSP game Peace Walker hasn’t been brought to other systems. It’s why everyone is waiting for this unannounced collection.
Considering how Konami put a massive Vol. 1 in this collection, it only makes sense to wait for Vol. 2. These are more demanding games than in Vol. 1, especially MGS4, so that collection needs some love and care. PS3 hardware was a mess, and making these games run better on modern systems has been a pain, which is why the PS5 only offers streaming for these titles.
But none of those reasons make this wait for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 an easier wait. It’s been close to two years since the last collection came out, and some fans are wondering if Konami should have put that massive “Vol. 1” in there. Konami did previously hint at something for this collection, but it’s been so long that fans are losing hope.
With Metal Gear Delta coming out soon, many hope that Konami will use that remake’s momentum to get people interested in this second collection. Aside from PS3 exclusive MGS4, fans are also expecting the PSP games to make it in there alongside the flawed but fun Metal Gear Solid 5. Fans would also like to see The Twin Snakes included, but that doesn’t seem likely.
Only time will tell if we get Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 in this year or in the next few years. Aside from a few comments and rumors, this collection is still in limbo. We really hope this is so that the port of Metal Gear Solid 4 works well, but we’ll wait and see.
