The latest Nintendo Direct was full of announcements, but one of the highlights was the reveal of a Metroid Dread sequel titled Metroid Ravenous. The new entry in the 2D series leaked back in June through a Brazilian ratings board, but we finally have confirmation of its existence.

Metroid Ravenous Release Date and Platforms
Metroid Ravenous is scheduled to come out on January 28, 2027, on the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite Dread being available on the original Switch, Nintendo hasn't announced a port for this console, marketing the title as an exclusive for the Switch 2.
Metroid Ravenous Story
Not much is known about the story we will see in Ravenous, apart from being a continuation of Dread. The story of the Metroid 2D games is separate from the Metroid Prime subfranchise, as these side-scrolling titles take place many years after the events of Prime 4.
In the trailer, Samus mentions the game's slogan "It's eat or be eaten," and shows that she will have a new ability that lets her absorb the enemies' energy to survive.
Metroid Ravenous Editions and Price
The game will be available in two editions: the Standard and the Special Editions. The standard edition only includes a copy of the game, while the Special Edition offers a physical copy plus the following items:
- SteelBook
- Amiibo with Samus in green suit
The Amiibo included in the Special Edition appears to be exclusive to it, meaning it can be acquired separately.
Metroid Ravenous Amiibos
Despite that, Nintendo will offer two Amiibos that can be purchased separately. The first one is Samus with her Ravenous suit, while the other one is a character named Chozo. This last one appears to be one of the game's enemies.
It remains unclear what these Amiibos will do when scanned while playing the new title.
