When rumors of a Nintendo Direct were doing the rounds, fans were hoping that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond would be the primary focus. After all, this is set to be a huge showcase title for the Switch 2 and something of a swansong for the original Switch. However, that all changed when Nintendo announced the upcoming Direct was a Partner Showcase instead.

Now that we’re more than halfway through 2025, fans are wondering where Metroid Prime 4 is and if it’s still coming out this year.

Any time Beyond is shown off in a Nintendo Direct, the company is quick to point out that it’s releasing “in 2025.” Obviously, that means the game is set to come out this year, but the lack of a definitive release date has fans wondering if that’s still the case. Maybe we’re spoiled because Metroid Dread had its release date set from day one, but the lack of news has fans panicking.

Fans familiar with Nintendo know that the company likes to release one exclusive a month, with Donkey Kong Bananza being the major one for July. It’s doubtful that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is coming out in August, as the anticipation of that title deserves some grandiose announcement or, at the least, its own Direct. Admittedly, it would be hilarious if they casually announce it online like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity in 2020, but that’s different for pandemic-related reasons.

What makes the wait for Beyond so annoying is how there have been plenty of details shared about the game. There will be mouse controls, fans can play it at 120FPS on Switch 2, and the visuals look stunning on both consoles. It also looks to be using an enhanced graphics engine that was used for the brilliant Metroid Prime Remastered.

If Metroid Prime 4: Beyond does get delayed, it wouldn’t be too surprising if it's pushed back to an early 2026 release instead. Nintendo is still planning some Switch 1 games in 2026, like the new Tomadachi Life and Rhythm Heaven Groove. We hope Metroid Prime 4 isn’t going to join them, but it would be understandable since this is a game everyone is anticipating, and they shouldn’t release a half-baked product.

Should Nintendo decide to delay this game, we hope they have some kind of apology release in mind. Many fans want the second and third Metroid Prime games released in some sort of bundle, which would be a decent consolation prize. Hopefully, they rework the third game to have button controls and even mouse controls, as it only had motion controls on the Wii.
