Marvel Rivals may be free-to-play, but the game makes most of its bank on cosmetics and adds new highly-coveted skins every few weeks to the Rivals shop.

With the sun setting on the first season, a fan on X (formerly Twitter) has thought of the perfect collaboration that could earn NetEase a lot of money should they decide to go forward with the idea.

Marvel Rivals vs. Capcom

Artist @jaeon009 has shared some concept art for Marvel Rivals heroes inspired by characters from Marvel vs. Capcom. Check it out below:

Here’s the list of characters and Capcom skins in the concept art:

  • Black Widow – Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
  • Captain America – Captain Commando
  • Venom – Nemesis (Resident Evil)
  • Iron Fist – Ryu (Street Fighter)
  • Star-Lord – Dante (Devil May Cry)
  • Hela – Morrigan (Darkstalkers)
  • Rocket Raccoon – Viewtiful Joe
  • Peni Parker – Tron Bonne (Mega Man)
  • Winter Soldier – Bionic Commando
  • Iron Man – Mega Man
  • Jeff the Land Shark – Servbot (Mega Man)

A lot of people in the comments have admitted that it’s a pretty neat concept, and it may actually have some players try out the game for the first time.

It’s not clear just how much legal red tape NetEase and Marvel Games have to jump through to get permission for some Capcom characters, but a collaboration would also be beneficial for Capcom, who some fans believe are gearing up for a reveal of the next MvC game.

The Current State of MvC

Admittedly, Marvel vs. Capcom is currently at an all-time low, seeing that the fourth mainline game MvC: Infinite, which was released back in 2017, was only met with middling reviews.

Though there hasn’t been any announcement for MvC5, fans think that Capcom could be winding up for some kind of reveal, and the recent release of the Marvel vs. Capcom collection was done in a way to gauge the fanbase and see just how much excitement there is left for the MvC franchise.

Why MvC Would Be the Perfect Collab

With all this hype surrounding the recent release of the Marvel vs. Capcom collection, it’s actually the perfect time for Marvel Rivals to come up with some Capcom-based skins. Besides mining nostalgia for the previous MvC games, they could also help build the hype for whatever Capcom has cooking behind the scenes.

Admittedly, Rivals already has a wealth of source material to pull new skins from like the MCU and several comics, but a crossover with another IP would be something that could actually turn heads for some players. Overwatch had already collaborated with IPs such as My Hero Academia and Avatar: The Last Airbender; so maybe Marvel Rivals can shake things up with a property that doesn’t have to fall under the Marvel umbrella.

It’s unclear what they have planned for the incoming second season, but if they were to have a mutant-focused season, an MvC collab would also be perfect because the very first game in the series is X-Men: Children of the Atom.
