Marvel Rivals has taken the gaming industry by storm with its exciting gameplay and a giant roster of characters to pick and play with. That being said, the game is still prone to some errors. No one’s perfect, after all.

In the following guide, we’ll be looking at some common error codes in Marvel Rivals, with possible fixes for each issue. Read on to learn more.

1. "DirectX 12 Is Not Supported on Your System" Error

Directx Error

The first error players commonly encounter is the DirectX 12 Error, which essentially means that your computer or laptop is missing the DirectX 12 configuration.

Outdated Windows Version

There are numerous reasons as to why this happens. Firstly, it might be that you’re using a Windows Version which isn’t supported for Marvel Rivals. For starters, the game requires Windows 10 64-bit, version 1909 or newer.

To confirm the version of Windows you’re using, simply press Win + R and type “Winver.” This setting confirms whether you’re using version 1909 (or newer) or not. In case you’re required to update your Windows, simply head over to Settings. From there, select Update & Security. Select Windows Update afterward.

Outdated or Incompatible Graphics Card

Apart from Windows, it may be the case that you’re using an outdated or incompatible Graphics Card to load up the game. According to the game requirements, you need a minimum of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, AMD RX 580, or Intel Arc A380.

To fix this error, you need to first confirm whether your Graphics Card is compatible or meets the game requirements. If it doesn’t, you need to upgrade your Graphics Card.

Outdated Graphics Drivers

Lastly, it may be that your Graphics Drivers are outdated. While this may be unlikely for most users, confirming your drivers’ current version wouldn’t hurt. In case this turns out to be the issue, players have to update their Graphics Drivers—the process differs in accordance to the type of brand’s Graphics Card you’re using.

For NVIDIA Users:

  • Visit the NVIDIA Driver Download page.
  • Enter your GPU details and download the latest driver.

For AMD Users:

  • Visit the AMD Drivers and Support page.
  • Enter your GPU model and download the appropriate driver.

For Intel Users:

  • Visit the Intel Download Center and locate your GPU model.

The second issue that players might come across in Marvel Rivals is the Failed to Connect to the Server Error, which arises when you fail to establish a connection with the game servers.

Here are the possible causes (and fixes) for this issue:

Server Downtime

Occasionally, the game servers go under maintenance for a plethora of reasons. In that case, players worldwide won’t be able to access online services for Marvel Rivals. To confirm whether that’s the problem, visit the game’s official page to check if the servers are undergoing maintenance. Additionally, you can also use social platforms to verify.

Firewall or Antivirus Interference

In some cases, the security software in your computer, which is designed to protect you from malicious software or ‘unknown’ online connections, can cause you to experience this error.

You need to adjust your Firewall or Antivirus Settings in that case. Head over to the Control Panel. From there, select System and Security and open Windows Defender Firewall. Click on "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall." Finally, ensure that Marvel Rivals is present on the list.

Local Network Settings

Sometimes, your Local Network settings can also interfere with the game’s online servers trying to establish a connection. In that case:

  • Open the Marvel Rivals launcher.
  • Click on the settings icon and select "Clear local config files."
  • Restart the game.

Check Your Internet Connection

While this is a general tip, it’s often overlooked. Restart your router and try to log back into the game. Additionally, you can also confirm with your Network Provider whether there’s an external issue with the internet service. Finally, if you’re on a Wireless Connection, consider switching to a Wired Connection for better latency.

3. "Out of Video Memory" Error

This error is related to performance. If your system’s GPU is unable to properly render the game’s graphics, you’ll experience this problem.

Here are the possible reasons why you’re coming across this issue:

Exhaustive Graphics Settings

If you’ve maxed out on the in-game Graphics Settings, and you don’t necessarily have a GPU capable of holding such a load, you’ll see problems arise.

To fix this error, head over to the game’s Graphics Settings. From there, reduce the intensity of certain options, like the Shadow Detail, Texture Quality, or Effects Detail. Additionally, disable features like ray tracing and motion blur.

Outdated Graphics Drivers

If you’ve not updated your Graphics Drivers, you’ll see problems arise with the memory allocation. In that case, ensure your drivers are running on the newest version. To do so, visit the manufacturer’s website and download the latest version from there.

Background Applications

In some cases, if you have ‘heavy’ applications open in the background that take too much memory, you may come across the above-mentioned error.

To counter this, Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. From there, head over to the Processes tab and end any applications that aren’t in your use at the moment or are consuming a heavy amount of memory on your GPU.
