Marvel Rivals launched its new mode, Clone Rumble, last weekend, and a lot of players have been having fun experimenting and testing the limits of certain heroes.
While people have been gathering armies of Punishers and Iron Men, some heroes aren’t allowed to be part of the Clone Rumble mode—and for good reason too.
Which Heroes Are Banned in Clone Rumble?
As it turns out, there’s a list of heroes that are banned from the Clone Rumble mode because having too many of them on the field would simply break the game. The list of the banned heroes includes:
- Adam Warlock
- Cloak and Dagger
- Doctor Strange
- Invisible Woman
- Loki
- Luna Snow
It’s worth pointing out that a lot of the banned heroes are Strategists, and some speculate that they were removed because their ultimates would make it very hard to eliminate anyone and it would just sour the game experience by needlessly keeping matches prolonged.
Besides the ultimates problem, there’s also the case of some character abilities that require a lot out of the game. For one, Doctor Strange’s portal works fine when there’s only one or two on the map, but having an army of Strange's making a ridiculous amount of portals would probably break anyone’s PC just to have it run properly.
There’s also the case of Loki who can make clones of himself in the game. They could cast a maximum of 36 Loki's in a map, and some guess that it would take a lot of processing to have them all run smoothly.
How Are Fans Taking the Ban?
Admittedly, a lot of fans were disappointed to learn that some heroes would be banned for the mode, especially since many of them were counting on doing their hypothetical experiments when the game mode launched.
If anything, it was likely that NetEase had already playtested the mode extensively before even coming up with the list of characters to ban. Some fans should probably just be thankful that they managed to stomp on those bugs early before they had any chance to totally overwhelm some poor player’s rig unexpectedly.
At this point, maybe they can just ban abilities instead of full characters, but it might be too much work, and it would probably defeat the central purpose of Clone Rumble—which is just to have fun. Balance was always supposed to be thrown out the window, but there are probably some things that the devs just knew would be more annoying than fun.
Season 1 is Winding Down
2025 kicked off Season 1 of Marvel Rivals, and now the devs are looking to wind it down to prep for Season 2. No reveals have been made for that season yet, but it has been rumored that Season 2 will be very mutant-focused, with several mutant heroes allegedly coming as well as a playable map of the X-Mansion.
Until NetEase reveals something official, all fans can really do is wait. Fingers crossed they finally drop Ultron and Blade because the leaks have been very detailed, and fans can’t be kept waiting on the edge of their seats.
Marvel Rivals is playable for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Season 1 is expected to end on April 11.
