At the end of the week, Marvel Rivals will welcome Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing—completing the Fantastic Four roster that was promised for Season 1.

With Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman being a duelist/strategist combo, NetEase adds a new duelist with the Human Torch who is another flying hero with a pretty hot bag of tricks.

Human Torch Ability Breakdown

Like Iron Man, the Human Torch is going to be a flyer, and he’s going to be up in the air throwing all kinds of fire attacks at the enemy team.

Here’s the official character showcase for Johnny Storm:

The official description for the character reads:

“Johnny Storm is the Fantastic Four's resident hothead heartthrob, always managing to look cool while turning up the heat! Johnny joined his sister on a wild experimental space mission in the hopes of visiting the stars, instead, he became the brightest star of them all with the power to ignite his body as the Human Torch!

“The Human Torch adds an intense flare to every battle with scorching flames. When he's not busy burning Dracula's legions with flames brighter than the sun itself, he's soaring across the city to gather Chronovium and scavenge for parts of the Timestream Reintegration Device.”

Here’s a breakdown of the Human Torch’s abilities:

  • Primary Fire: Fire Cluster Johnny launches a fireball that can split to cover a lot of damage. It has a fast rate-of-fire, but has to be recharged after six shots.
  • Right Click: Blazing Blast – Johnny launches a fireball that creates a flame field in specific areas.
  • E: Pyro-Prison – Johnny can connect the flame fields that he’s cast on the map to form a firewall that will deal burning damage to enemies. It’s also said to damage enemies within the wall.
  • F: Flaming Meteor – Johnny dives toward the ground and can stun nearby enemies. This also has the ability to knock them back.
  • LShift: Plasma Body – Johnny enters a state of accelerated flight.
  • Ultimate: Supernova – Johnny unleashes shockwaves to deal damage to any enemies that are nearby. During this state, the flame fields will turn into fire tornados which come in handy with…
  • Team-Up Ability: Omega Fire Storm – Johnny can turn Storm’s hurricane into a fiery hurricane which can cause more damage and even be powerful enough to destroy structures. Likewise, Storm can also do the same for Johnny’s fire tornadoes with her ultimate.

Johnny Storm

With his flight abilities, Johnny is already getting lots of comparisons with Iron Man, but some have pointed out that he has significantly less health, so it’s important for him to keep moving and stay out of line-of-sight for any snipers.

Though Torch can be a little squishier than other heroes, he can still deal a lot of damage, and can even cast more attacks than Iron Man at his rate of fire.

With two duelists, a vanguard, and a strategist, the Fantastic Four already make for a well-balanced team; which was probably by design for the game. No doubt players will be seeing the full F4 roster teaming up once the Human Torch and the Thing come to the game on Feb. 21.

Marvel Rivals is now playable for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
