Marvel Cosmic Invasion is looking like a dream beat 'em up. With one of the best developers to tackle the project, a recent San Diego Comic Con announcement shocked fans as two new playable characters were announced, with one in particular shocking fans: Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill. On top of that, it looks like both Galactus and Hela will join the ranks as villains.
Developed by Tribute Games, the team behind the critically acclaimed TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, Cosmic Invasion will see Marvel heroes (and villains) come together to try and stop impending doom brought by Annihilus.
It's no surprise that, unlike previous years, the Marvel Games department is allowed to operate independently from other branches. Gone are the days when everything needed to be tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Beta Ray Bill is such an obscure character that's been out of the spotlight for years that it had fans scratching their heads at seeing such a bizarre design.
Who Is Beta Ray Bill?
Quick short summary of who Beta Ray Bill is: in the Marvel universe, he is the first being that's not part of Norse mythology to be worthy of wielding Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.
Despite his looks, he is a hero who is often on the right side of the law. After clashing with Thor, they came to an agreement that the Son of Odin would keep Mjolnir, however, Beta Ray Bill would get his very own weapon: Stormbreaker. Yes, the same axe that MCU Thor uses to behead Thanos in Endgame originally belonged to Bill in the comics.
Another neat surprise the SDCC reveal trailer dropped on fans is the appearance of two iconic villains: Galactus and Hela. While the main threat of the game is Annihilus, it looks like he'll recruit the help of some serious firepower to wreak havoc across the universe.
The trailer showcases a bit more of the locations players will be able to explore, including a trip to Asgard, duking it out on the Bifrost, as well as a planet being consumed by Galactus where you'll have to face a legion of Sentinels.
