After their success with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, Tribute Games will tackle another comic book property with Marvel Cosmic Invasion.
Cosmic Invasion has just revealed 7 out of 15 incoming heroes in the base roster, but which characters should appear in the game when it launches later this year?
7/15 Characters Revealed
According to insider Miller Ross, there are a total of 15 characters that are expected to be available when the game launches, and so far, the only ones that have been revealed include Spider-Man, Venom, Captain America, Nova, Wolverine, Storm, and Phyla-Vell.
With 8 more characters yet to be revealed, fans are speculating who else could complete the main roster for Cosmic Invasion.
Let Me Take You For a Ride
With the game leaning in on its retro roots, it’s very possible that the roster could also be influenced by characters that have been playable in older games. The X-Men arcade game from Konami also had a playable Wolverine and Storm, but the roster also included Cyclops, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler.
Cosmic Invasion also has some influence from the Marvel vs. Capcom games, and other playable favorites in that game include Iron Man, War Machine, Hulk, Blackheart, Thanos, Shuma Gorath, and Doctor Doom. The game also featured many X-Men characters, including Magneto, Sabretooth, Gambit, Rogue, Ice Man, Juggernaut, Marrow, Spiral, Silver Samurai, Omega Red, Psylocke, and Cable.
Then again, Capcom produced their own Marvel beat-'em-up game with The Punisher, including a playable Nick Fury.
Since Nova and Phyla-Vell are completely new characters, it wouldn’t be surprising if more space-themed characters were included in the roster. They could easily include some of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the game (Rocket and Groot combo anyone?), or they could bring in Thor to ensure all the main Avengers are playable.
It’s also worth noting that the game's main villain looks to be Annihulus, who is a Fantastic Four villain, so maybe someone from that team should be available to play.
If the devs were cheeky enough to include a playable Capcom character in the roster, though, they can’t go wrong with Street Fighter fan-favorites like Ryu and Chun-li… maybe even Mega Man.
More to Come
For now, all fans can do is speculate. Though there are many characters that fans would love to be included in the base roster, some could come to the game in the form of NPC.
The trailer did feature AIM soldiers, and it’s possible that MODOK could be a boss. There has also been a tease of Sentinels, which could be fun.
Maybe the game could feature a mix of cosmic and street-level threats, so players could be going up against the Kingpin on one level, then have to team up and fight Galactus on another. Until more is revealed, we’ll have to wait and see.
No specific release date has been revealed for Marvel Cosmic Invasion, but it’s expected to launch for all major platforms later this year.
