Mario Kart World has quickly become a topic of conversation, whether it’s due to the game’s quality or how expensive it is. While Nintendo’s morality might be at an all-time low right now, a quick preview from the most recent Nintendo Treehouse did show some promising gameplay. It looks like a solid follow-up to the eighth game and we can’t wait to get our hands on the racer.
Although the gameplay preview was quick, we were able to learn some things about Nintendo’s upcoming racing game. There’s no doubt that it’s going to sell like hotcakes, especially with that Switch 2 bundle, but it looks like fans will be playing this game for a long time. Whether it’s for multiplayer fun or simply driving around, there’s quite a lot coming to this new world of Mario Kart.
So here’s what we learned about Mario Kart World from the Nintendo Treehouse presentation.
Connected Tracks
In a move that’s going to make a lot of fans happy, all of the game’s tracks are connected. Like Xbox’s Forza Horizon games, you can expect to see these tracks intersect in really cool ways, especially during the Free Roam mode. This is a very inspired move for the Mario Kart series and it’s going to be hard for Nintendo to top this.
No More Custom Vehicles
To make things easier when picking vehicles, Mario Kart World won’t let you customize your cars and motorcycles anymore. Fans will still have a wide array of vehicles to choose from, but you won’t be able to choose their wheels, parachutes, and any other custom part. Some fans might find this disappointing, but it does simplify the racing process.
Holding Bombs Is a Lot Easier
Players no longer have to hold the weapon button when prepping a bomb. Now players simply have to press the button to hold it out and press it again to throw it. This makes using these weapons a lot easier, though some fans would argue that holding it added strategy. Gamers will need to get used to this move, but it’s definitely unique.
Grind On Rails and Walls Like Tony Hawk
Fans saw this in the initial trailer, but they will be able to grind on rails and even drift on walls like Tony Hawk in Mario Kart World. Considering how big some of these tracks are, we think fans will need to use these skills to get the upper hand over other players. At the least, fans can style over their opponent by mastering these skills.
Outfit Switching
If fans pick up food from the various item boxes, they can eat it and then switch their outfits. This doesn’t do much for gameplay, but it does spice up the looks of these characters a bit.
So far, that’s everything we learned about Mario Kart World. There is a Nintendo Direct coming that will focus on this game and we’ll have more information on that soon.
