- Key Update: After failing to maintain a sustainable player base Wildlight Entertainment has announced the permanent closure of Highguard's servers.

- Quick Answer: Highguard will shut down for good on March 12, 2026, following massive layoffs and the withdrawal of funding.
Highguard is officially shutting down on March 12. Following massive layoffs at Wildlight Entertainment, the free-to-play FPS mix of MOBA and hero shooter will now be taken less than two months after its release this past January 26.
The announcement was made via the official Highguard X (formerly known as Twitter) account. Wildlight explained that despite the passion of the development team behind Highguard, they weren't able to build a sustainable playerbase, leading to the decision to shut down the game's servers this March.

Highguard will get one final major update before it's gone for good, including a new Warden, weapons, and skill trees. It's a sad end to a frankly bizarre game that was reportedly being backed by Tencent and received the final showcase spot at The Game Awards last December.
The game peaked at almost 100k players during its release, with numbers dwindling dramatically over the course of the following days. At the time of writing, there are fewer than 300 players in-game according to Steam Charts.
