  • Quick Answer: The Plasma Pistol and Magnum combination lets players instantly strip Covenant energy shields with a overcharged plasma shot, then quickly finish targets with a single Magnum headshot.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming soon, and veterans of the series are more than excited to relive the first entry in an entirely different way. And it's not just them, but there will also be a huge batch of newcomers, as PlayStation fans will finally be able to experience what they've been missing out on for so long.

For those who are stepping into the series for the first time, they're going to need all the help they're gonna get, as the Covenant are a relentless foe. Most new players will often pick up every weapon they can find and use whatever to take down the alien threat, and while that can work, there will be scenarios where doing so can be tantamount to suicide.

As someone who has played Halo: Combat Evolved and its remaster repeatedly, I can say with confidence that there will be two weapons you'll want to look out for no matter what: the Plasma Pistol and Magnum. Now, why those? Why not the Rocket Launcher with its explosive power or the Needler with its ability to track and burst targets?

Well, for one, the Plasma Pistol is a very common weapon. No matter what level you'll be playing in Halo: Campaign Evolved, you'll always encounter Grunts and Jackals, or at least their remains. Their weapon of choice will almost always be the Plasma Pistol, and given that they come in droves, you can see why you won't have trouble looking for it.

But why would you still want it if it's being used by one of the weaker members of the Covenant? While its primary fire is, in fact, close to worthless in dealing damage, it's the charged version that's the game-changer. When holding down the fire button, you can accumulate power in the Plasma Pistol to shoot a powerful projectile.

Enemies hit by it have their regenerative shields completely taken out, and vehicles are also forced to stop due to the EMP it emits. You can do around nine to ten charge shots from a fully loaded Plasma Pistol, and given that they're so common, it can be very helpful in many scenarios.

That weapon has great benefits, but you might ask why you would want to pair it with a Magnum instead of anything else. Well, that's because the handgun is one of the most powerful tools in the game. Don't be fooled by its appearance; while it may look like a simple handgun that won't be able to do much, it's actually quite the opposite.

For one, it has more ammo than you could possibly need. Halo: Combat Evolved's Magnum has a total of 132 rounds, with 12 available per magazine. So, before you're forced to reload, you have twelve shots to work with, meaning you'll have ample opportunity to use it on whoever you're shooting.

The damage the weapon can deal is nothing to scoff at, either. A Magnum's bullets can effectively take down Grunts and Jackals with a single headshot, and can take out enemy shields through consistent firing.

Also, it has a scope, allowing you to gauge enemies from a distance or take them out. It's already a great weapon alone, but where it truly shines is when it's paired with the Plasma Pistol. Again, the Covenant will have forces with regenerative shields, and they can be very tough to get through. And even when you somehow overcome them, you still have to take out the user, and since it's the powerful Elites who mostly equip them, doing so will not be an easy task.

However, when you have both the Plasma Pistol and the Magnum in your arsenal, you can essentially eliminate the problem with ease. All you have to do on your end is to hit an enemy with a fully charged pistol shot to take out the shields, then quickly switch out to the handgun for a headshot. This guarantees the death of any threat, even on the Legendary difficulty setting.

Admittedly, this will not be easy the first time, as it requires precise timing, accuracy, and a willingness to leave safety covers and take enemies head-on. However, all you have to do is keep trying, and eventually, you can overcome the fear and get the hang of it. Once you do, you'll notice how quickly enemies can melt, and almost nothing the Covenant sends will be able to stop you from finishing Halo: Campaign Evolved.

If you're someone new to the franchise, you have the option to try out whatever weapon you want, but I'll say that once you've had your fun, consider making the Plasma Pistol and Magnum your best friends. They've proven time and time again that they can help players out of nearly any tough spots they find themselves in, and it would be a waste to forego such useful tools when they're so readily available.
