- Key Update: A new leak has reportedly revealed GTA 6's file size at launch, surpassing the 200 GB mark.
- Status: Leaked
- Last Verified: October 28, 2026
- Quick Answer: A PlayStation database leak puts GTA's file size at about 210 GB at launch.
The long wait for GTA 6's launch is almost over, with marketing in full swing both online and in-person, especially in Miami, Florida. While many are getting their last-minute pre-orders sorted, there is another thing you should also consider in your preparation: the game's file size.
According to leaker PlayStationSize on X, GTA 6's file size is estimated to be 210 GB at launch. This leak comes from the PlayStation database, as the game might have already been uploaded on PlayStation's servers ahead of its release date.
Although this only applies to the PS5, we assume the Xbox Series X|S version will be very similar or even the same size.
This is certainly an impressive file size, considering that we can't think of a game that surpasses the 200 GB installation size on consoles. Some names that come close to it are Black Ops Cold War at around 130 GB and Destiny 2 at around 160 GB.
If we compare it to previous Rockstar titles, the current version of GTA V on PlayStation 5 requires a 120 GB install. Of course, this wasn't the install size back when the game launched on Xbox 360 and PS3, since it has increased over the years due to new content constantly getting added and the visual improvements.
The install size for Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PlayStation 5 is very similar, sitting around the 120 GB mark. This would mean GTA 6 almost doubles the studio's most recent release, signaling the amount of assets and high-quality textures it will have.
