Grounded 2 is off to a strong start, as this sequel has successfully retained its older fans and attracted some new ones. Maybe it’s the premise and setting that evokes ‘90s nostalgia, or the solid survival sim gameplay, but this game is already gaining traction for Xbox. Because it's still in Early Access, new features are expected to come soon, some of which were teased in the game’s trailer.
Fans on the game’s subreddit have pointed out the initial trailer, which features one of the game’s characters with butterfly wings. Based on that imagery, it’s a hint that more flight-based traversal mechanics are coming to this wacky survival sim. We doubt this will mean actual flying in the game, but we’ve seen weirder things happen.
The inclusion of butterfly wings in Grounded 2 should be good, though fans are also hoping to see ziplines return in this sequel. Some fans see the wings as a proper replacement for that traversal option, though many are mourning ziplines because they were a fun way to explore these areas. Luckily, the devs confirmed that ziplines will be returning as part of the game’s extensive roadmap, which is the best of both worlds.
Only time will tell if these wings will be a suitable traversal mechanic in the game, especially with all the flying enemies about. Insects like bees did attack players while they were on the aforementioned ziplines in the original Grounded, so we assume winged players won’t be any safer. Then again, that’s part of the fun with these long-running survival games.
Based on the roadmap, it looks like Grounded 2 is going with the Hades 2 route of staying in Early Access for a good while. This is a solid way to build support for a game, while also improving on all of its faults. Fans are interested in seeing just how different this game will be once it’s officially in the 1.0 stage.
