Final VR3000 +Condenser Mic Review: Gaming Earbuds Tested

The Final VR3000 +Condenser Mic is a bit of a niche product, combining a pair of in-ear earbuds with the kind of boom microphone you'd normally find on a traditional gaming headset. This is an unusual setup in my eyes, but one designed with immersion in mind, as the VR3000 has been made to deliver 3D spatial audio tailored for VR, FPS, and open-world games.

I wouldn't normally choose earbuds for gaming, but I can definitely see the appeal in certain situations, especially when you're standing, moving around, and wearing a bulky VR headset that makes most over-ear headphones impractical. And that's really why they caught my attention, and I was keen to find out whether they could convince me to swap my usual over-ear headset for lighter in-ear buds when gaming.

So, did these $99.99 earbuds change my mind? That's exactly what I'll be exploring in this comprehensive review.

Design, Comfort, and Build Quality

The VR3000 earbuds are based on Final's Three-Point Support design, which is intended to let the buds rest securely in your ears without putting pressure on the ear canal. Final claims this makes them ideal for marathon gaming sessions, and while I agree the earbuds themselves are lightweight and comfortable, I think some issues hold back the overall design.

The biggest problem for me was the fit, particularly with the boom microphone connected to the right earbud. Even after experimenting with the included Type E silicone ear tips, which come in five sizes (SS, S, M, L, and LL), I never found a fit that felt truly secure and didn't lock in my ears enough to prevent the right earbud with the mic from slipping down due to the mic's weight.

Smaller tips improved the fit slightly for me, but the mic side still felt loose and would always fall downwards. In short, these never sat naturally in my ears, no matter what I tried.

I'm also not a fan of the microphone's placement. Rather than attaching at the bottom of the earbud, the wire connects at the top, which meant the cable and mic constantly got in the way instead of neatly dangling down if they were connected at the bottom. And though it's detachable, there's no way to use the earbuds without the mic attached (unless investing in a replacement cable, I guess?). Weird.

The result was a setup that felt a little awkward and more distracting than it needed to be. That said, the earbuds themselves are incredibly light, weighing just 23 grams with the microphone and cables attached, and are made from ABS thermoplastic resin, which keeps the weight down. They're not overly premium to touch, but this material and low weight do help improve their comfort somewhat.

Final does include Type B locking ear hooks to help reduce cable movement and touch noise. I didn't spend much time testing these, but they're a nice extra to have if cable noise tends to bother you.

When it comes to sound, they have usual basic passive noise isolation, but no active noise cancellation (ANC), which, at this price, a lot of earbuds do have... I like that they have on-cable control buttons, though. However, the middle button isn't labelled at all, which confused me at first. For context, it plays/pauses sound, but there's nothing to obviously indicate that just from looking at it. Plus, there's no mic-mute button anywhere, which is a shame when so many headphones and headsets have this feature.

Audio Quality and Gaming Performance

As mentioned, the VR3000 +Condenser Mic is marketed as an earbud set built specifically for VR and 3D gaming, with Final claiming it accurately recreates a game's intended acoustic space while avoiding the boxed-in sound that many traditional earbuds suffer from.

To achieve this, it uses 6mm f-Core DU dynamic drivers with brass housings, alongside a 101 dB/mW sensitivity and 18 Ω impedance. On paper, it all sounds promising, but my real-world experience was a little more mixed.

Starting with imaging, this is one area where the VR3000 generally performed well. In shooter games, I found it easy to track footsteps moving from left to right, and judging roughly how far away enemies were was fairly straightforward. Front-to-back positioning wasn't quite as easy to follow, and rapid movements from distant to nearby enemies weren't as smooth as gradual approaches, but overall, the positional audio is solid for gaming.

Sound separation wasn't quite as impressive. During gameplay, explosions and gunfire often overpowered footsteps until enemies were already close. That's not an uncommon issue, and it's something that can often be improved with in-game audio settings or EQ adjustments. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, Final doesn't provide any dedicated EQ software for the VR3000, leaving you to rely on whatever options your game or third-party platform offers. The drivers also seem a little slow in the low end, making overlapping sounds blend more than is ideal.

In terms of detail, the fundamentals are there. Important gameplay sounds come through clearly enough, but many of the subtle environmental details that help create immersion take a back seat. The overall tuning is fairly neutral, I think, although the midrange does lack a little energy, resulting in a presentation that can feel a little flat.

I was also expecting more from the soundstage, especially considering how heavily it's marketed around spatial audio. Running a binaural wooden door-knocking test, it was immediately obvious I was listening to a recording rather than something happening in the room. I own the slightly cheaper RIG R5 HS Pro over-ear headset and, in a comparison test, I found it produced a more convincing sense of realism. That's perhaps not an entirely fair comparison given the larger drivers and different design, but for a product aimed at immersive VR gaming, realism wasn't quite hitting for me.

Frequency-wise, I found bass performance to be respectable overall. Deep bass lacks a little oomph and occasionally sounds shaky, while the mid-bass carries a bit more punch. The midrange is clear enough but fairly average, while the treble stays reasonably clean before introducing noticeable distortion toward the highest frequencies.

Those characteristics became more obvious across the games I tested. In the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo, the earbuds delivered an enjoyable cinematic presentation and were noticeably louder than I expected, likely helped by the fact they sit directly inside your ears.

Older FIFA titles, however, exposed some weaknesses. I like using sports games for headset testing because they combine menu music, commentary, crowd noise, and gameplay effects. One bass-heavy menu track immediately revealed audible distortion whenever certain low and high frequencies kicked in. Additional audio testing backed this up, showing distortion through parts of the mid-to-bass frequencies as well as the upper treble. During matches, however, commentary seemed to remain clear, but sound effects like the ball being kicked blended into the crowd atmosphere more than they should, reducing the overall sense of realism.

Resident Evil Requiem, on the other hand, suited the VR3000 much better. Because the earbuds seal your ears, they naturally block out much of your surroundings, making the game's eerie atmosphere feel more immersive. Quiet moments built tension nicely, and sudden zombie encounters genuinely caught me off guard. Modern audio design from the game itself certainly helped here, but this was one of the earbuds' strongest showings.

Meanwhile, Fortnite reinforced my earlier impressions. Positional audio remained good, making it relatively easy to identify where enemies were coming from, although judging exact distance was still a little inconsistent. More importantly, busy firefights highlighted the weaker sound separation, with louder effects masking footsteps more often than I'd like. Switching back to my RIG R5 HS Pro headset simply resulted in a cleaner, more balanced sound experience.

Outside of gaming, music was perfectly listenable but suffered a little from that relatively neutral and flat output. YouTube videos fared a little better, although dialogue sometimes sounded slightly tinny or distant. They were still enjoyable enough for casual viewing, but they didn't leave much of an impression.

Overall, I'd say the VR3000 performs best with simpler soundscapes where individual effects have room to breathe. Once multiple layers of audio compete for attention, its limitations become much easier to notice.

Microphone Quality

As per its name, the VR3000 features a high-sensitivity condenser boom microphone, which Final says is capable of delivering natural, detailed voice reproduction for everything from multiplayer gaming to streaming and online meetings. In practice, I'd say it performs better than I initially expected, although there are a few caveats.

The biggest factor is positioning. The microphone sounds its best when it's placed close to your mouth, producing clear and pretty natural-sounding capture. Move it even slightly farther away, however, and your voice quickly starts to sound more distant and a little echoey on playback. It also doesn't do a particularly good job of isolating your voice from your surroundings, as background noises are picked up more prominently than I'd like instead of being pushed into the background.

One feature I did appreciate was the removable foam windscreen, which does a solid job of reducing breath noise. That said, my biggest criticism still lies within the design itself. The weight of the mic, even though quite minuscule, pulls the right earbud down. No matter which ear tip I tried, the extra weight made the fit feel less secure, ultimately affecting both comfort and confidence that the earbud would stay in place.

Connectivity and Compatibility

The VR3000 uses a 1.2-meter OFC cable that terminates in a 3.5mm four-pole angled connector, making it compatible with a wide range of PCs, consoles, handhelds, and VR headsets with a standard headphone jack.

Many headsets and headphones are re-adopting the wired life these days, and that's fine. However, I found the 1.2-meter cable a little too short for desktop gaming, often stretching to its limit while I was sitting at my desk. The cable is also prone to tangling, especially once the microphone is attached.

For earbuds designed with VR in mind, where you're likely to be moving around more, that's a frustrating drawback, as is the limited cable length. I'm sure you can invest in a longer one, and one without a mic (as already mentioned), but by default, the cable provided is limiting.

Price and Value for Money

At around $99.99 (£79.99), depending on where you shop, the VR3000 +Condenser Mic sits somewhere between the budget and mid-range by over-ear gaming headset standards. However, within the much smaller gaming earbud market, it's on the pricier side, especially as they lack any wireless connectivity.

In my view, a wired-only design at this price is hard to justify, especially when wireless connectivity would arguably be far more practical for VR. The lack of ANC also feels like it should be a feature at the VR3000's price point to boost immersion, yet Final has gone without it here.

Ultimately, while I was pleasantly surprised by the microphone and found the audio decent overall, the awkward fit, short cable, and microphone design outweigh those positives. Personally, these aren't earbuds I'd choose to spend my own money on.

Final Verdict

In short, the Final VR3000 +Condenser Mic offers solid positional audio, a surprisingly capable microphone, and an interesting VR-focused concept. However, the awkward fit, short cable, underwhelming soundstage, and a lack of premium features make it difficult to recommend at its RRP.

If you specifically want wired gaming earbuds for VR, definitely consider them, but most gamers will get better value from a similarly priced over-ear headset, or cheaper wireless earbuds that also feature a mic.
