Capcom has announced a slight change in the Onimusha: Way of the Sword release. Don’t worry, it’s not being delayed; it’s actually being released earlier, now launching on September 4, 21 days before its original September 25 release date.
The Japanese studio has been on an absolute roll this year. I’ve personally reviewed three of their major titles this year (Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata), and they’ve all been quite entertaining. Playing the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo has me hopeful they can keep knocking it out of the park.
Why Is The Onimusha: Way of the Sword Date Changing?
It’s no secret that the September/October period is a highly contested time for videogames. There’s a reason for that: everyone wants to dodge Grand Theft Auto 6.

A few of the high-profile releases in September include Marvel’s Wolverine (September 15), Control: Resonant (September 24), and Silent Hill: Townfall (September 24). That alone tells you why Capcom opted to move the date.
Going into October, you also have Gears of War E-Day (October 6), Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (October 15), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (October 23), and Phantom Blade Zero (October 29). Looking at this stacked calendar, if the studio is confident that they don’t need that extra bit of polish, it makes the most sense to release Onimusha much earlier.
In any case, you can be sure we’ll be checking out Onimusha when it releases this September 4 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
