Final Fantasy XIV is having a historic crossover with Neon Genesis Evangelion. The collaboration comes at a great time for players as a new expansion, Evercold, will hit the game in early 2027.
The crossover will feature a series of Alliance Raids themed around Hideaki Anno's seminal work. The title for the update will be Ghosts of Desire.
As game director Yoshi-P stated, this will not be a single Alliance Raid, but a series of them players will get to undergo during patch 8.0 and beyond.
If you're unfamiliar with Alliance Raids, these are massive 24-player encounters against a series of bosses. Since these are usually not tied to the main story, it has allowed Square Enix to bring different collaborations to FFXIV. Most notably, things like Nier Automata have had their own series of Alliance Raids.
