The big reveal of Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest definitely stole the show, jam-packed with announcements that included Capcom's newest Resident Evil and Tifa joining Street Fighter 6.

A big reason for Square Enix's silence as of late was that they clearly wanted to wait until almost everything was in place before a proper unveiling of Revelation. So rather than dripfeed information and teasers, there was a lot to dissect from our first look at the game, including a new Class system called FITS.

FITS, an acronym for function integrated tactical suitware (clever, Square), will work similarly to Jobs in previous Final Fantasy games, Square Enix has confirmed via a press release. They will supplement the equipment and materials you have for each character with additional movesets.

From the gameplay reveal trailer, we could spot the default FITS style for every party member will be called Freelancer. Then, we had a glimpse at Cloud's Warrior and Tifa's Black Mage FITS. We did see Barret and Cait Sith's different looks as well, but beyond a quick cinematic glimpse at them, we don't have information on their names.

During PAX, we finally got a look at all four FITS classes, as well as more information.

Back at SFG, director Naoki Hamaguchi dropped by popular content creator Maximilian Dood's stream, confirming each character will have four different FITS.

During the interview, Hamaguchi stated that the idea behind the FITS system is that players can break the mold of each character's archetype, using Cloud as an example, who can be turned into a Black Mage with Warrior traits.

Of course, having actual visual cosmetics that directly impact gameplay is also a really cool touch. Hopefully, we can get a demo in the coming months to test out how the gameplay feels ahead of release.

During PAX West, battle designer Teruki Endo went into more detail about how FITS change gameplay for individual characters. As mentioned, there are a total of four FITS:

  • Warrior: Expands offensive gameplay through character-specific abilities.
  • Knight: Expands gameplay options for defensive situations and critical moments.
  • Black Mage: Expands magic focused gameplay.
  • Summoner: Expands gameplay utilizing summons.

While there may be only four FITS, Endo stated that they added much depth to each, allowing characters to be completely different based on which one they have equipped. It’ll also give players more tools to build a proper team without feeling too unbalanced, since you can shape each character into a very specific role, even if their base gameplay doesn’t revolve around said specific task you had in mind.

Furthermore, Endo confirmed FITS will be unlocked really early into Revelation's story, as it should take players around 5-6 hours to unlock the system.

Speaking of which, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is coming out in Spring 2027 on all major modern platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
