It looks like the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed IV remake is real, according to none other than Edward Kenway’s voice actor himself. During a recent fan meeting, Matt Ryan, the original voice behind Black Flag’s swashbuckling protagonist, hinted that players might soon be setting sail once again.
At the event, Ryan asked a fan if they had played Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag yet, then teased, “...you might have to beat it again,” dropping a cryptic clue about the game’s potential return. He followed it up by saying there’s a reason he mentioned it, but that he couldn’t share any more details.
Of course, rumors of a Black Flag remake have been circulating for years. While Ryan’s comments aren’t a full confirmation, they add serious weight to the speculation that Ubisoft is preparing something special for fans of the 2013 classic.
Whispers of the remake first started a few years ago but gained real traction last year after Insider Gaming reported on Ubisoft’s future plans. The game was originally expected to launch in November 2023, but updates went quiet, likely due to the focus on Assassin's Creed: Shadows and its delay.
Now, with Shadows nearly out and its upcoming DLC, Claws of Awaji, on the horizon, there’s renewed hope that the Black Flag remake could surface this November or December.
Ubisoft appears committed to reviving the past, with several remakes reportedly in development. Alongside the Black Flag remake, there are also rumors that the original Assassin’s Creed is getting a remake treatment, though that will likely come after Edward Kenway’s return to the Caribbean.
