Switch 2 fans are buzzing over Donkey Kong Bananza, thanks to an electric standalone Nintendo Direct. Considering how the new system has already sold millions of copies, we’re sure fans will flock to this 3D platformer and all its unique features. Interestingly, fans already want DLC for this game, and it isn’t even out yet.
Fans on the Switch 2 subreddit noticed that the Bananza eShop page has “in-game purchases” listed, leading many to think DLC is on the way. While this could just be online services that could get added in the future, many are hoping this leads to extra in-game content. Even the fans who think this could be something meaningless hope it will lead to substantial DLC.
Donkey Kong Bananza getting additional DLC isn’t out of the question, since Nintendo has added extra content to games like Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. However, since the game has plenty of Super Mario Odyssey vibes, many are assuming it's just another mini-game with online leaderboards.
For those not aware, Odyssey added a Balloon World mini-game that had minor online features. This means players who wanted to post their scores online would need an NSO account, which has a yearly subscription. It’s why Odyssey has “in-game purchases” listed in the store page, and the same could happen to Bananza.
Everything about Donkey Kong Bananza looks like Super Mario Odyssey on steroids, which is a huge compliment. The fact that DK can smash so many things with his bare fists is a sight to see, and fans can’t wait to try it for themselves. It’s also one of the few games that’s going to be a true physical, so fans might want to get that on a cartridge if they can.
We don’t know how Bananza would handle DLC, but adding extra worlds or more difficult variations of existing levels could work. Time trials or unique challenges would also be fine additions to the game, even though they’re already in the base title. Either way, fans want more of what they’ve seen, so DLC would sell.
