- Quick Answer: Danganronpa 2×2 introduces "Slayhem Mode," an alternate retelling of the second game that could pave the way for a reimagined Trigger Happy Havoc.
Spike Chunsoft has announced a remake of Danganronpa 2: Killing Harmony, Danganronpa 2x2, is coming out in early 2027.
The game will include the original game, as well as a new mode called Slayhem Mode, which will feature an alternate storyline where one different action sparks a whole new killing game, with different victims and killers.
During an interview with Crunchyroll, series creator Kazutaka Kodaka claims that if 2x2 does well, they could remake the other two mainline games. Well, now I'm hoping it does, because I need to see the alternate timeline of Trigger Happy Havoc.
I Yearn For an Alternate Version of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
In the original version of Trigger Happy Havoc, Makoto Naegi's hope stems from overcoming the loss of Sayaka. This was - and still is - a great origin story for how his hope starts and how it grows to defeat despair. But I won't lie - I'd love to see a Slayhem Mode for Trigger Happy Havoc, so we see how hope would pan out differently.

In my head, an alternate timeline of Trigger Happy Havoc should feature Sayaka surviving past Chapter 1 and us losing Kyoko early on. Creating a new Makoto origin story allows us to explore different ways Makoto has to find hope, which would lead to a grittier, more emotional story.

As I sit here and think about who could be the new killers and new victims, I can't help but yearn for a remake of Trigger Happy Havoc even more. I can imagine the story becoming more terrifying, with a completely unexpected character (maybe Byakuya?) becoming the first culprit. Remaking the first game strips away years of fan meta-knowledge, allowing us to relive the setting of Hope's Peak Academy for the first time with something fresh and new.

I think a new Trigger Happy Havoc can further underscore how terrifying Junko Enoshima truly is. In the original story, she can anticipate everyone's moves. I would love to see an alternate version where one's actions catch her off guard, forcing her to act more desperately and scramble to plunge the Class of 78 into despair.

There are so many possibilities with the Trigger Happy Havoc storyline. I'm hoping 2x2 does well (I'm definitely purchasing it) so we can see what Kazutaka Kodaka does with the other games.
