- Quick Answer: This article breaks down the features fans want in Slayhem Mode, including double-blackened culprits, a dynamic lying mechanic, and trials influenced by tropical disasters.
Ever since Spike Chunsoft announced Danganronpa 2x2, a remake of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, I've been extremely hyped.
The game will feature the original campaign, but what I'm most excited for is the Slayhem Mode. This will bring a whole new story, with new culprits, victims, and tricks. It's basically a whole new game - and that's what I'll be playing.
Since the trials will be entirely different, there are plenty of twists I'd like to see in 2x2. Here are some of the additions I would love to be included.
Double-Blackened Case
In Danganronpa 2, we saw a double murder case. However, it only involved one killer taking out two people.

For Danganronpa 2x2's Slayhem Mode, I'm betting we'll experience two entirely separate, unrelated murders committed in the same chapter. I want to see how chaotic the trials will be - will they be held together? How will the execution turn out? It would be a logistical mess for Monokuma, but I am dying to see it.
A Lying Mechanic
In V3, we were able to lie during trials, but it was heavily scripted. For 2x2, I'd like to be able to see a more dynamic logic system. Perhaps you can cover for someone you trust during a Nonstop Debate.

If you're capable of pulling off the lie, it sways the rest of the students during the trial. However, if you lie poorly, the rest of the class will turn on you. You'll then have to defend yourself or risk becoming the blackened.
A Killer Who Confesses Immediately
In Danganronpa 2, we don't see a character immediately confess or try to claim a crime. I think it would be interesting to see a character immediately step forward and confess to a murder. However, the trial would continue due to evidence being hazy.

This would ensure a bizarre puzzle where you'd have to discover why someone would confess to the murder and if they're telling the truth. But if they're lying, why would they try to take the blame for a murder? A case like this adds to the mystery of Danganronpa.
Someone Surviving a Murder Attempt
This could directly relate to the double murder case. Instead of someone getting away with killing two victims, I think it would be intriguing to see someone narrowly escape being murdered.

The case would hinge on the testimony of a severely injured and traumatized witness who can't remember the killer's face. You'd have to piece together evidence and relate it to their memory to deduce who the blackened is.
Switching Map Perspectives
Spike Chunsoft has confirmed that the map will feature a total revamp. While Danganronpa 2 featured a side-scrolling map, Danganronpa 2x2 will have a 3D map. Players will be able to run across the map or instantly travel to a location.

While they've confirmed you can view the map in first-person perspective, I loved the side-scrolling map of the original game. I hope they give you the option to pick between the old and new map layouts for those who prefer the OG one.
A Murder During a Tropical Disaster
Monokuma can control the weather on the island. I would like to see a case where Monokuma simulates a tropical storm or typhoon, forcing students to be trapped in the building. During the height of the storm, a murder occurs.

Because of the howling winds and the heavy rain, no one will be able to hear the murder, and all physical footprints outside will be washed away. For the trials, students will need to rely on proof inside the building and the timing of when power is lost or when the storm starts.
Upgraded Trial Locations
In Danganronpa 2, the trials are set in a courtroom. For 2x2, I think it could be cool to see the trials held directly in tropical locations to lean in more into the abandoned island theme.

Perhaps a trial could be set in a massive yacht or on a boardwalk. As the trial heats up, waves will crash, the boat will tilt, or fake Monokuma birds swoop down to distract the students. It would force students to be more active - literally - in the trials as they try to avoid the obstacles Monokuma adds.
