  • Key Update: On March 9, Capcom announced a strict ban on sharing any footage, clips, or "transformative content" of the Capcom Cup 12 and SFL 2025 Finals on social media until over a week after the event.

  • Quick Answer: Capcom is threatening legal takedowns for any unauthorized CC12 social media clips to protect its PPV model, a move creators warn will "stifle" the tournament's growth.

Capcom has just pissed off the entire fighting game community after they announced that the company will be issuing takedowns to users who share clips on social media or other platforms of the Capcom Cup 12 and Street Fighter League Finals, starting on March 14.

To say Capcom is adamant that people don't get interested in Capcom Cup is an understatement. Fans initially pushed back against the original pricing, leading to a price decrease and the ability to stream the group stage phase of Capcom Cup.

While the final Top 16 remains a PPV, fans had at least hoped they would be able to engage in commentary and discussion via social media by sharing news and clips of the event. Capcom stated on March 9:

"For the enjoyment of our paying subscribers, we ask that you refrain from publicly sharing footage of the CC12 and SFLWC2025 Finals on video streaming services, social media, or any other online or offline platforms without permission of CAPCOM."

That essentially will destroy any hype the event manages to create online. Content creators like Brian_F expressed his concern, saying: "No coverage, social media clips, transformative content, news reporting etc. On capcom cup finals until over a week later. This stiffles any chance for organic buzz from CC to grow interest in the scene."

Fans can still tune in to the final Top 16 for free, but only by doing so via Street Fighter 6's Battle Hub, an online social hub. Watching via Battle Hub will prevent players from using tools like Twitch clipping or rewind functionalities.

With Capcom Cup 12 starting this March 11, it'll be hard for the esports division of the company to revert such a decision. I'll be keeping an eye on the situation in case any further developments happen.
