After all these years of updates and community love, Black Desert Online is finally finishing its run on PS4 and Xbox One.
Pearl Abyss has announced that these versions will be discontinued on June 26, 2025, as the game moves to a next-gen exclusive experience.
This comes with native versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, which are made to use the full power of the new hardware.
The developers say that even though they tried to keep things running smoothly on last-gen consoles, technical limits have made it tough to maintain performance and add new features.
Pearl Abyss released a dedicated video update addressing the decision. In this, the team revisits Black Desert Console's progression since 2019 and marks the five-year milestone of cross-play support.
The June 26 update will boost performance and visuals for next-gen users, but it'll also cut off access for older consoles. When the update is released, the PS4 and Xbox One versions will go offline.
Players won't be able to log in or make purchases on those platforms anymore. Pearl Abyss has also confirmed that no data will be lost.
Your account, items, and Pearls will all transfer when you log in on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
While some players feel the loss of an era, many are relieved that the game can now evolve without the constraints of outdated hardware.
The devs are dropping hints about new content on the way. Updates like Ulukita, long-requested balance changes (like those for the Deadeye class), and more are in the works.
Expect more details as the update approaches, but one thing is clear: the team is pushing forward, not holding back.
If you've played Black Desert Online on PS4 or Xbox One, this is the final chapter.
But for next-gen players, it's the beginning of a new one.
