ARC Raiders Guide: 5 Essential Tips Every Beginner Needs to Know

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders has successfully dominated the Steam charts over the weekend, racking up over 350,000 concurrent players since its launch, and it’s still going up as of writing.

Now that players have acclimated to the chaotic world of Topside, new players are still having a tough time navigating through the barren world in fear of the dangerous Arcs and hostile Raiders.

Here are 5 things you should know when you’re playing ARC Raiders for the first time:

Put Important Items in Your Safe Pocket

Safety Pocket!

The Safe Pocket is the most important slot in your inventory. This allows you to store one item and keep it with you even when you perish in the outside world. It’s always recommended to put Epic and Legendary items in that slot, assuming you get one. Making it unreachable to would-be Raiders who get the jump on you.

Ideal items to put in your Safe Pocket are Keycards, Trinkets, or that one item you’ve always wanted for your upgrades. Note that weapons can’t be put inside the Safety Pocket, for obvious reasons, of course.

Free Loadouts are Unlimited

Free Loadouts are unlimited.

The first thing you should know is that Free Loadouts are unlimited. They never run out, even if you have zero weapons and items in your in-game stash. They provide a random gun (Ferro, Rattler, Stitcher, etc) and a handful of recovery items like Bandages and Shield Recharges. The Free Loadout’s downsides are that you have no safe pocket and you don’t always know the weapons you are getting.

ARC Raiders is an extraction shooter, meaning you are constantly dropping into hostile territory and grabbing loot. Failure to extract on time, and you can kiss your looted items (and your guns) goodbye. Free Loadouts is basically the developers' way for players, mostly Solo, to casually drop in and out of an area with minimal losses if they fail to extract.

Veteran players can also make good use of this, as it poses no risk to the rare items you stocked up in your inventory. You still lose your loot and items if you perish, but you can breathe free since they’re not from your stash.

You Can Still Extract While Downed

We successfully extracted while being downed.

One of the most surprising things in ARC Raiders is that getting downed doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. Imagine you’re near the extraction point, waiting for the doors to open. However, a random Raider or an Arc knocks you down to zero health, causing a downed state. This is not over, as you can still activate the console when the doors open.

Simply wait for the doors to open and crawl into the terminal to return to Speranza. However, if you’re in the presence of aggressive Raiders, they can just finish you off, sending you back into Speranza with zero loot and weapons.

The best thing about the downed state is that Arcs can’t shoot at you anymore. This may or may not be an intentional thing, but it’s a good reprieve when you’re being overwhelmed by multiple Arcs. If you have a buddy with you, ask them to revive you.

Don’t Always Recycle Everything

Don't recycle all items!

ARC Raiders is all about loot. Getting in and out after hoarding as many items as possible is the game’s core gameplay loop, so there are moments when you feel overwhelmed with all the items in your Stash. But here’s a word of warning: Do not always recycle everything!

Every item in ARC Raiders is classified into multiple types. Some items are tagged as “Recyclable,” meaning you can get basic items from them after tearing them down. While this may sound like a good idea, it’s not always the case. Other Recyclables, like Arc parts and weapons, are essential when crafting high-end gear and Bench upgrades. It’s best you keep items you FEEL are important, and just recycle the common and uncommon ones.

Items With Diamond Icons Are Meant to Be Sold

Sell these trinkets ASAP!

One thing you should notice during your run is items with Diamond icons. These are Trinkets, and this is the game’s way to get you rich fast. Trinkets come in all shapes and sizes, meaning expensive ones are always color-coded with Blue and Purple. If you ever find a rare Trinket, put it in your safety pocket so you won’t lose it.

Once you finish the run and successfully extract, you can sell these Trinkets from your Stash. Simply click on the selected item and sell it, and now you’re twice as rich.

And that’s about it. While there are still more hidden details in ARC Raiders, these five are essential for beginners, as the game doesn’t outright explain what they are.
