Looking to play Mario Kart without dropping $60 to $70? Well, just boot up YouTube.

You heard me right. Someone created a version of Mario Kart that could be played on everyone's favorite video streaming site. Of course, it's not an accurate representation of the game, but it's perfect for those who want a quick dose of Rainbow Road fun.

Here's all the information about this Mario Kart on YouTube.

Someone Made a Playable Mario Kart on YouTube

A channel called Atlas Arcade (and Animated Subtitles) released an interactive video where players could play Mario Kart on YouTube. And yes, it's a 3D game that actually works on the platform.

Now, obviously, it isn't actually Mario Kart. You need to activate subtitles to get Luigi on your screen (change the language if you want other characters) and use the WASD keys to look up, down, turn left, and turn right.

The goal of the game is to simply drive on the Rainbow Road. Occasionally, you'll see a shell or banana peel on the Road, but it doesn't actually do anything. However, driving over a Boost Pad actually makes you increase speed, and the Blooper does in fact squirt ink to block your vision.

It's a simple game, but the fact that it's on YouTube is crazy. According to the channel, they used HTML and JavaScript to make the game. JavaScript made the foundation of the game, while HTML was likely used to structure the visual viewport.

What's most impressive is the fact that changing subtitles actually loads the character. I played in the default English to get Mario, but you could also play as Toad, Princess Peach, Luigi, and more. It's not mentioned how the subtitles featured photos of the characters, but it's likely a string of Unicode text blocks, colored markers, and HTML line spacing.

One con is that it often doesn't load properly. The 3D visuals didn't load at all while using Opera GX, and it took a few refreshes in both Chrome and Edge. I'm not entirely sure why that happens, but it's nothing a few CTRL+Rs can't fix.

I checked Atlas Arcade's channel, and they've uploaded a bunch of YouTube games - even a Five Nights at Freddy's one. I can't wait to see if they'll be able to do even more advanced games on here.
