  • Quick Answer: Xbox is gauging player interest in making franchises like Fallout and Minecraft console exclusives, with Call of Duty remaining multiplatform.

Xbox wants to move away from putting all its major IPs on multiple platforms. The company is now surveying fans about potentially pulling back all of its franchises, including The Elder Scrolls, Minecraft, and Fallout.

The Xbox Research team (per Windows Central) sent out a survey asking players how they would feel if future projects involving the likes of Minecraft or Fallout went full console-exclusive. Current games would still be available on PlayStation or the Nintendo Switch, but in this hypothetical, they would stop receiving updates.

One exception remains, of course: Call of Duty, with one of the questions stating that it’s the one title that would remain multiplatform. One thing to note, as mentioned, is that the survey states PC releases would still be happening, asking users if this would move the needle toward them getting an Xbox console, moving to or staying on PC, or simply dropping the franchises altogether.

The remnants of Xbox's previous direction—with its "This is an Xbox" campaign leading the company to put some of the studio’s most iconic franchises on other platforms, like Halo and Forza Horizon—can still be felt, as gamer interest in owning an Xbox console has dwindled massively. Just to put into perspective how bad it’s become, the Xbox Series has sold roughly 35 million units, according to VGChartz; the Nintendo Switch 2, which just released in June of 2025, shipped close to 24 million units in a single year.

With Sony seemingly making bad decision after bad decision, Xbox deciding to pick up its toys and leave for the land of console exclusivity once again couldn’t come at a better time for them. Well, it could, considering manufacturing costs, but I digress.

Again, this is but a mere survey used to gauge interest, and it’s not something Xbox will likely act upon in the immediate future. They did avoid bringing Gears of War: E-Day to PS5, so it’s not like they're hiding their intentions.
