A few UK Xbox users are able to bypass the newly implemented age verification process by Microsoft this past July 28, 2025. How? Well, by being deemed too old to be a minor as of the date of their account’s creation.
Microsoft pushed a new age verification process in order to comply with the UK Online Safety Act. Players will have to confirm they are 18 or above to continue using Xbox’s social features like voice chat, messaging, and sending/receiving game invites.
The original statement mentioned that those who didn’t verify their age would permanently lose access to these features with anyone not on their friends list by early 2026. The timeframe came and went, and as it turns out, a few Xbox users have been getting messages saying that their accounts were auto-verified due to “long-standing account activity.”
In other words, if you’ve made an account that’s likely over 18 years old, you won’t have to waste your time going through the age verification process. In other other words, you’re old, and your youth is withering away, with the Xbox message being a stark reminder that your best years may very well be behind you.
I kid, but also, I can relate. I made my current Xbox account back in 2007, just in time to hop on Halo 3. I still miss my very first Gamertag when the OG Xbox dropped. Sadly, I was too young to understand the process of migrating data. Still, my 2007 account is already close to being 20, so I would pass the age verification process by doing absolutely nothing.
