WWE 2K25 won't include Penta on its base roster when the game launches on March 14. On February 17, 2K Games revealed the base roster for their upcoming wrestling title, with the Mexican luchador notably absent from the list.
Revealed via IGN First, the full base roster has hundreds of wrestlers from WWE's three main brands: Smackdown, Raw, and NXT. Of course, legends from years past are also present, with multiple variants to honor their lengthy careers.
The usual suspects are present. For the most part, it's what you'd expect from a base roster: John Cena, Roman Reigns, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, HHH, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Charlotte Flair. If they're at the top of the card, they are in 2K25.
Sadly, Penta's absence is a tough pill to swallow. It makes perfect sense, considering he recently just debuted this past January. Yet in that short amount of time, the former AEW star has quickly become a fan-favorite.
Penta has been undefeated since his WWE debut, displaying near-perfect in-ring work against Ludwig Kaiser and Chad Gable. On top of that, WWE gave him a stellar spot at this year's Royal Rumble, opening the men's battle royale against Rey Mysterio. Eventually, he'd become this year's Iron Man, lasting over 40 minutes before being unceremoniously eliminated by Finn Balor.
Other notable roster absences come from the NXT brand. Stephanie Vaquer and Giulia will not be on the initial roster, but 2K Games could save them alongside Penta for potential DLC.
Both Vaquer and Giulia hold the NXT female championships. Giulia won the NXT Women's Championship on January 7, while Vaquer conquered the NXT North America Women's Championship just this past February 15.
Still, some might consider 2K Games's decision not to add wrestlers who recently joined the company nitpicking. This is especially true considering the new shipping features of 2K25, which include intergender wrestling, a new semi-open-world mode called The Island, and even the ability to play MyGM online.
WWE 2K25 is releasing on March 14 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. You can play it starting on March 7 by pre-ordering the Deadman and Bloodline editions.
