Monster Hunter Now may have launched back in 2023, but the game has several years of Monster Hunter content to mine from.

Just recently, MHN has announced a collaboration with Monster Hunter Wilds, and the crossover is now in its second phase. What’s great is that a new monster from Wilds will appear in Monster Hunter Now.

Beware the Chatacabra

Per the official Monster Hunter Now site, the new season is underway, but before that, the game will bring in the Chatacabra from Monster Hunter Wilds. The creature is said to drop this Feb. 28, and it also comes with a bunch of different items, including 12 different weapons from Wilds and an inflatable version of the Seikret, a mount introduced in Wilds.

For context, the Chatacabra is an amphibious creature that looks like a cross between a gorilla and an incredibly spiky toad. The Chatacabra’s signature feature is its massive tongue. At the same time, it can use its tongue for attacks and cover itself in its saliva, which acts as an adhesive from which the Chatacabra can coat itself in armor-like rocks.

Admittedly, the Chatacabra's tendency to follow the player around, trying to lick them, makes it feel like a giant slobbery pug.

For now, it’s unclear how long the collaboration between MHN and MHW will last, but Niantic had said before when it announced the collab, “This is the beginning of the collaboration between Monster Hunter Wilds and Monster Hunter Now, and we are planning to do more later down the road.”

There will undoubtedly be room for Now to introduce more fan-favorite characters from previous Monster Hunter series entries.

The Blossoming Blade

The Chatacabra is just one of the last big drops coming to the game before the start of Season 5, which has been dubbed The Blossoming Blade. In addition to the special items and skills expected with the updates, the two big monsters expected to drop this season are Glavenus and Arzuros.

Glavenus is a brute wyvern (a type of dragon) introduced in Monster Hunter Generations. Its signature feature is its massive tail, which doubles as a blade. When it fights, its tail naturally heats up, giving it more powerful attacks. Like any dragon, Glavenus can also spit fire.

As for the Arzuros, it was a monster introduced in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Classified as a Fanged Beast, the Arzuros looks like a cross between a bear, a crocodile, and a mole with its furry/scaly body and sharp claws—which it uses primarily for attacking and pinning down prey.

Aside from the monsters, Season 5 is also said to introduce a new feature that will let players trade specific materials for various rewards. While there isn’t an official look at that yet, Niantic hopes to reveal more throughout the season.

For more information on Season 5, players can check out the official site here.

Season 5 of Monster Hunter Now will launch on March 6. The Chatacabra will be added to the game on February 28. Monster Hunter Now is now available on Android and iOS.
