Buying Grand Theft Auto VI is slightly more complicated.
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are already live, there are Standard and Ultimate Editions to choose from, the so-called physical version doesn’t actually contain a disc, and PC players still don’t have an official version to buy.
Then there is the question of where to get it. You can go directly through PlayStation or Xbox, buy through Rockstar and selected retailers, or compare marketplace offers through sites such as G2A.COM.
So, before you hand over £70 or more for a ticket back to Vice City, here’s what is actually worth knowing.
Where can you buy GTA 6 in the UK?
The simplest options are the official PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, alongside the Rockstar Store and selected retailers. Rockstar explicitly confirms those as pre-order routes.
UK console pricing is currently straightforward.
How much is GTA 6?
On both PlayStation and Xbox in the UK, the Standard Edition costs £69.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs £89.99.
That’s a £20 difference, which raises the obvious question: do you actually need the expensive one?
Probably not, unless the extras appeal to you.
The Standard Edition includes the game itself, while the Ultimate Edition adds a collection of extra vehicles, weapons, customization items and other in-game content. Standard Edition owners will also be able to buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately later, so choosing Standard at launch does not lock you out forever.
In other words, don’t let the word “Ultimate” bully you.
Can you buy a GTA 6 key?
Yes, but this is where reading what you’re buying becomes important.
Rockstar confirms that GTA 6 can be distributed through digital download codes, and even the boxed physical edition contains a code rather than a disc.
Marketplace listings are another option. If you’re specifically searching for a GTA 6 key, G2A.COM currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI offers for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, including Standard and Ultimate Edition options.
That doesn’t make every listing interchangeable, though.
PS5 buyers should pay attention to the country
Rockstar says PlayStation GTA 6 codes are tied to particular account regions. For UK buyers, a UK PlayStation code needs to match a UK PlayStation account.
So, if you spot a suspiciously tempting offer from another part of the world, don’t immediately celebrate your financial genius. Check the offer details first.
Xbox is less complicated
According to Rockstar, Xbox GTA 6 codes are not region-locked in the same way.
Even then, checking the platform and edition before paying is still a good habit. Buying the wrong £70 game is an impressively boring way to start your criminal career.
What about GTA 6 on G2A.COM?
If you already compare game prices across different shops, checking GTA 6 on G2A is a perfectly reasonable part of the process.
The marketplace currently has GTA 6 offers for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and availability includes different editions depending on the listing.
The useful approach is not to assume that G2A.COM, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, or any other retailer is automatically the cheapest every day.
Compare them.
Look at the final price, check which edition you’re getting, make sure the offer works with your account and console, and then decide whether the saving is worth it.

The GTA 6 “physical copy” has a surprise

There’s a box, but there’s no disc
Rockstar is selling a physical version of GTA 6, but the box contains a download code instead of a game disc.
Yes, really.
It is physical in the sense that a box arrives at your house. The actual game, however, still comes down the internet.
The physical Standard Edition is expected to start shipping and become available for collection from November 12, a week before launch, so buyers can redeem their code and preload the game.
There is no physical Ultimate Edition. If you buy the boxed Standard Edition and later decide that you need the extra content after all, you can purchase the Ultimate upgrade digitally.
Collectors may still want the box. Anyone specifically wanting a GTA 6 disc should know what they’re getting before opening the parcel and experiencing five seconds of profound confusion.
What do you get for pre-ordering?
Eligible digital pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack plus one month of GTA+. The pack includes a vehicle and garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern.
On PlayStation, the GTA+ month automatically continues as a paid subscription unless cancelled, so that’s worth remembering if subscriptions have a habit of disappearing into the dark corners of your bank statement.
Preloading begins on November 12, 2026, seven days before launch.
Is pre-ordering actually necessary?
No.
If you already know GTA 6 is going to consume your November, pre-ordering lets you sort everything out early and preload before release.
If you prefer waiting to compare prices, there is little reason to panic. The game is not going to become more GTA 6 because you bought it in September.
Can you buy GTA 6 for PC?
Not yet.
As of September 2026, Rockstar has officially announced GTA 6 only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is still no confirmed PC edition or PC release date.
That makes the buying advice here unusually simple: don’t buy something advertised as a confirmed GTA 6 PC copy.
There isn’t an official one yet.
The same applies to PS4 and Xbox One. Rockstar’s announced versions are for the current console generation.
So, what’s the best way to buy GTA 6?
For pure convenience, buy GTA 6 directly through PlayStation Store or Xbox Store. You know exactly what version you’re getting, and there is very little to think about beyond choosing Standard or Ultimate.
If the price matters more, compare first. Check out regular retailers, official stores and marketplaces such as G2A.COM before deciding.
For most people, the £69.99 Standard Edition will be the sensible choice. The Ultimate extras are optional, and you can upgrade later if Vice City convinces you that your virtual criminal desperately needs more virtual possessions.
Just remember the three important bits: buy the correct console version, check code compatibility if you’re shopping outside the official stores, and don’t order a “PC version” that Rockstar hasn’t announced.
Then all that’s left is the easy part.
