It took almost a decade, but Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is finally set to come out this year, and Hideo Kojima fans can’t wait to get their hands on the game.

Like any big AAA game, DS2 also comes with a Collector’s Edition, and they’ve just released an in-depth look at what to expect from the package.

“We Should Not Have Connected”

Releasing ahead of the pre-order launch, a new trailer has been dropped to showcase the Collector’s Edition of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. It features a lot of in-game goods as well as some physical items, including a figure of the new character Dollman and a 15-inch statue of the Magellan Man from the latest trailer.

Looking closely at the statue of the Magellan Man, Kojima confirms it was designed by Entei Ryu and was supervised by Yoji Shinkawa, the lead mech and creature designer for Kojima’s games. Here’s Kojima’s post about the process of coming up with the final product:

The pack includes the statue and figurine, a letter from director Hideo Kojima, and some art cards featuring central characters from the game.

What are the In-Game Items?

Though the physical collector’s items are what shine with the Collector’s Edition, the in-game items will include:

  • Machine Gun (MP Bullets) Lv 1 Early Unlock
  • Battle Skeleton: Gold (Lv1, Lv2, Lv3)
  • Boost Skeleton: Gold (Lv1, Lv2, Lv3)
  • Bokka Skeleton: Gold (Lv1, Lv2, Lv3)
  • Patch 70: Quokka
  • Patch 71: Chiral Feline
  • Patch 72: Why Me?

As far as pre-order bonus content goes, players will get

  • Battle/Boost/Bokka Skeleton: Silver (Lv1, Lv2, Lv3)
  • Custom Hologram: Quoka Early Unlock

Anyone who picks up the special editions will also get 48-hour early access to the game before it launches for everyone else worldwide.

Pre-orders will start on March 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. (local time), and the Collector’s Edition is expected to run for $229.99

Another Funky Trip from Hideo Kojima

Death Stranding was a massive swing for Kojima Productions, seeing that it was Kojima’s first foray outside of the Konami umbrella, and it looks to have paid off.

Though some consider Death Stranding divisive, many critics have praised Kojima for his unique approach to gameplay and the solid themes of connectivity and isolation. It even gets crazier that Kojima predicted the worldwide pandemic would occur a few years after the release of DS.

It’s unclear what fans should expect with the sequel, but hopefully, Kojima has something else in mind besides another sci-fi walking simulator. Either way, the visuals look absolutely fantastic, and it’s full of that odd creature and mech design expected of Kojima and his team.

Hopefully, On the Beach doesn’t disappoint and should pave the way for future KojiPro titles that aren’t set in the world of Death Stranding.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches for the PS5 on June 26. Pre-orders start March 17.
