Fans will remember how the Insomniac Games leak revealed some interesting projects that were being worked on, including a Venom game. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 seemingly acted like a stealth pilot for the character’s game, as he got his own playable section and even had a boss fight.

It’s been a few years, and we’re all still wondering: what happened to Insomniac’s Venom game? Many figured that a lot of the assets used for Spider-Man 2 would be used for this rumored spinoff game, but nothing has happened. Having a stealth release for this project like Oblivion Remastered would be fun, but we don’t see that happening.

The infamous Insomniac Games leak is what got fans talking about a game for this character, since it looked like a surefire hit. Pretty much any Marvel fan loves this character, so many were hoping that this rumor was true. Based on the lack of news and information, it looks like this could be another canceled project.

Many Marvel fans will remember that there was supposed to be a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 multiplayer spinoff. A trailer for the game was leaked, which revealed a playable version of Spider-Gwen. This trailer was also narrated by Spider-Man VA Yuri Lowenthal, so this had some work put into it before the project got canceled.

Since Insomniac’s Venom game only ever got mentioned in those leaks, there’s always a chance this was just a project pitched and never came into fruition. We saw how Spider-Man 2 teased DLC for the longest time, but never got it. They even confirmed that there wouldn’t be any DLC for the game when it was eventually released on PC.

Keep in mind that this is all just speculation, since Insomniac Games could always surprise fans by suddenly announcing a Venom game. We might just have to wait a while, since the company is still working on their upcoming Wolverine game, which has many people excited. Wolverine doesn’t even have a release window, so it will be interesting to see if something will be done with Venom first.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Venom has been playable in various video games since the ‘90s, appearing in Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage on the SNES and Genesis. Since then, he’s appeared in Marvel vs Capcom, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Ultimate Spider-Man, and so much more. There’s definitely some room here to give the character a solo game, we’ll just have to wait and see if it happens.

Here’s hoping that Insomniac Games has more plans for Marvel’s Lethal Protector. At the very least, they should have plans for him in the next Spider-Man game from Insomniac.
