- Quick Answer: Veteran player Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi won at CEO 2026, making him one of the oldest fighting game players to win a major.
41-year-old legend Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi just proved that in a world of up-and-coming young talent, he’s still got what it takes to win big majors after taking home the Street Fighter 6 CEO 2026 event. This is his first offline victory in a Capcom Pro Tour major since the Japan Super Premier back in 2024.
Tokido is a staple of the FGC with a big focus on Street Fighter throughout his career. To say he’s one of the most accomplished fighting game players of all time would be an understatement, having won Evo on three separate occasions across the same number of games (Capcom vs SNK 2, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Street Fighter V).
Still, many believed his best years were behind him amid his age and the general feeling that Capcom’s current main fighting game, Street Fighter 6, is catered towards a more reaction-based form of playing.

Proving to the doubters by fully reinventing himself, moving away from playing classic shoto characters like Ken or Akuma, Tokido’s training as a JP main finally paid off, pulling off an incredible victory in a tournament that had 15-year-old Craime as #1 seed, beating 17-year-old Micky in loser’s finals, and other young stars like Blaz (16) in attendance.
The victory feels like full circle for Tokido, as it happened exactly 10 years after his last CEO belt, when he beat Infiltration in grand finals. Craime, who was the #1 seed and came into the tournament as the Esports World Cup champion, was barely 5 when it happened.
It was an incredibly stacked tournament, making his victory that much sweeter, and while a Capcom Cup spot was on the line, that didn’t preoccupy Tokido as he was already qualified.
Tokido is far from the only veteran over 40 trying to keep up with the younger generations. Legends like Daigo Umehara (45), Fuudo (40), Bonchan (39), Momochi (40), Gamerbee (47), or Itabashi Zangief (45) are still competing at the highest level. In fact, Tokido, Daigo, and Fuudo have all qualified for the upcoming Capcom Cup 13.
