- Quick Answer: The Blood of Dawnwalker is an upcoming dark fantasy open-world action RPG set in 14th-century Europe, where player choices directly shape narrative outcomes and time progression.
There are plenty of open-world RPGs in the works, but none have intrigued me as much as The Blood of Dawnwalker.
One aspect that stops me from playing open-world games is how exploring often feels like a checklist. There's both too much to do and not enough. Once you're done with quests, you're forced to be a completionist if you still want to play the game.
The Blood of Dawnwalker, however, seems different. It's both an open-world game and a narrative-driven one, which leads me to believe that my choices will have a greater impact on the story than most RPGs.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Is the 2026 RPG I'm Looking Forward to Most
The thing I detest about many RPGs is how the maps feel so empty. There are hundreds of repetitive graphics and icons - after a while, it just gets boring. I want the worlds I invest my time in to feel rich, where every action is intentional.

During the launch event back in April, it was revealed that even though The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world game, all your actions and experiences shape the plot. You can choose to save your family as Coen or destroy everything. Every action shapes the world around you. I've never heard of an open-world game that is so intricately tied to your actions, and that really stood out to me.
One thing I also like is that it's a single-player game. I love diving headfirst and immersing myself in unique worlds, and there's something extremely alluring about the world of Dawnwalker. Of course, I'm interested in the supernatural side of it all, but the fact that the trailer already showed tension and how your decisions will come with major consequences has me even more intrigued. I'm excited to play as Coen, a lone protagonist who has to make tough calls and morally ambiguous decisions to survive a hostile 14th-century Europe setting.
Besides that, I'm also fond of the rich and moody atmosphere. The dramatic lighting and the Gothic architecture are right up my alley, so I'm more than happy to purchase a game with this aesthetic.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is the game I am most hyped about. I'm excited to finally play a game that isn't just an endless map full of chores - it actually features meaningful narrative consequences. It's not even out yet, but I'm already calling it: The Blood of Dawnwalker will be an RPG that becomes the gold standard for immersion.
