CEO 2026 was an incredibly fun time for fighting games, with plenty of fresh games to enjoy, and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls being one of the most exciting of the bunch. Multi-Evo Champion Dominique “SonicFox” McLean took home the CEO belt with an incredible loser’s run.
SonicFox winning is not an inherent surprise. They are one of the most accomplished fighting game players in the entire world, able to compete with the very best in any game they want to put their time into. What’s surprising is that Sonic wasn’t really vibing with Tokon, that is until he unleashed Green Goblin and his incredible mix-up potential, becoming Sonic’s staple character throughout their run.
It wasn’t easy, as the best things to achieve tend to be, with Sonic being sent to losers by long-time friend and also fairly accomplished fighting game competitor Steve “Supernoon” Carbajal. During their loser’s run, Sonic eliminated the likes of two-time Evo Champion William “Leffen” Hjelte.
The character variety was rather interesting, although characters like Spider-Man, Black Panther, Magik, and the aforementioned Green Goblin definitely stand out as potential top tiers of Tokon. It’s still very early days, but the meta is clearly forming around having strong point characters that have decent mix-up on their own or strong buttons to control space in neutral.
It’ll be interesting to see how the meta keeps progressing and which players decide to stick with the game in the coming months, as the space is now heavily populated with fighting games to enjoy. Avatar Legends drew some attention after announcing a Pro Circuit with a $100k+ prize pool. Tokon will be a key part of the Arc World Tour circuit, if not outright the flagship game moving forward.
