A new year has begun in Overwatch, with Reign of Talon Season 1 adding new content such as the Crimson Wolf weapon variants. This cosmetic gives the heroes' weapons and/or equipment a red animated texture with the Talon symbol floating on it.

How to Unlock the Crimson Wolf Weapon Variant in Overwatch

To unlock the Crimson Wolf weapon variant in Overwatch, players will need to collect 3000 Competitive Points and purchase it in the new hero gallery.

You can find the weapon variant by selecting the Hero tab at the top, selecting the hero of your choice, double-clicking its icon or using the Customize button, and selecting the Weapon Variant option at the bottom of the list.

The weapon variant is not available to purchase at the time of writing, but if we look at how the Galactic weapon variant was released last year, we believe the Crimson Wolf variant will go live when the Season 1 mid-season patch releases, which should be on Tuesday, March 10.

How to Get Competitive Points in Overwatch

Competitive Points are represented with a red icon, and the only way to earn them is through Competitive matches. Each Competitive match win grants 10 points, while ties give only 5.

Competitive Points are the only currency that can be used to purchase Crimson Wolf weapon variants in 2026. Once the competitive year ends in February 2027, this weapon variant will go into the legacy rewards, and players will be able to acquire it using Legacy Points.
