If anything is carrying the Overwatch franchise on its back, it’s definitely the waifus, and Blizzard is set to introduce a new one soon with the hero Freja.

The character is expected to launch in Season 16, but she’s going to be available for a limited time later this month, and the devs have just dropped a hero trailer that spotlights this morally ambiguous bounty hunter.

The Hunt Begins

Freja takes the spotlight in the short The Hunt Begins trailer, and it emphasizes just where she’s leaning on the character alignment chart of Overwatch. Check this out:

“Next time you want to cross the coldest bounty hunter in the business, think again.

“See what happens when Freja’s latest job with Maximilien doesn’t go according to plan in the newest Hero Trailer, ‘The Hunt Begins.’”

Though characters like Sombra and Ashe have connections to organizations like the Talon and the Deadlock Gang, it looks like Freja is more of an independent contractor who works for the highest bidder.

What are Freja’s Abilities?

Freja’s abilities are all showcased in the trailer as well. Her main weapon is her futuristic crossbow which also has specialized ammo that can explode on impact.

Freja also has some flight and speed capabilities which allow her to zip around her enemies and take them out with her crossbow. Her ultimate is the ‘Bola Shot’ which pulls enemies together to the one that gets hit—before exploding and dealing a lot of damage.

Freja is categorized as a damage hero, so players can’t expect her to have any support abilities. With her high mobility though, she seems pretty fun; but fans are just waiting for other pros to come up with the right strategies to play her in the game.

Overwatch and Marvel Rivals

With Marvel Rivals being the most buzzed-about hero shooter since it launched last December, Blizzard has been playing a game of keep-up ever since. Besides the tease for the next hero Freja, they’ve also introduced new things to the core gameplay including perks. Fans also saw the return of the lootbox, and it’s possible that 6v6 is going to be back to stay.

For now, some fans think it’s too early to tell who will eventually come out on top over the course of the year, but Overwatch and Marvel Rivals have admittedly been taking turns being one of the most viewed games on Twitch over the past few months.

While a lot are already branding Rivals as the 'Overwatch Killer', some fans think that Blizzard is definitely not done when it comes to their OG hero shooter; and the presence of a worthy rival like MR is only going to keep the devs on their toes making better content.

Maybe players will finally get that PvE that was promised so many years ago. Hopefully the devs at Blizzard haven’t completely scrapped that concept yet.

Freja will be available to play for a limited time on March 21-24. She arrives to Overwatch 2 in Season 16 which is expected to begin on April 22.
