While a character looking slightly different in concept art than what they end up looking like, rendered in-game, is not particularly rare, Blizzard really did miss the mark with Anran, stripping her of all personality. Fans complained that she suffered from "Overwatch face syndrome."
The redesign isn't massive, but the new facial expressions line up more with Anran's fiery personality (no pun intended), something Keller stated.
"Her original version was too innocent and playful. Anran is confident, determined, fierce, and a natural-born leader. We want her visuals in-game to convey that personality."
In essence, Anra's got small changes in her eyes, eyebrows, and mouth, ditching the, in Keller's own words, "baby face look and expression," in favor of something more mature.
